CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Porsche 911

Summary
With 545 currently listed for sale and an average price of $121,707, 26.8% of 2017 Porsche 911s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Porsche 911 4.67 / 5 stars.
82.2% of 2017 Porsche 911 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Porsche 911 stands out because it sits at the point where the model entered its turbo era. Almost all models added a turbocharger for improved performance and efficiency, while the base Carrera’s output increased to 370hp, the Carrera S jumped to 420hp, and the GTS to 450hp. The Turbo and Turbo S rose to 540hp and 580hp, respectively. Porsche also added a new infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, giving the car a more modern feel without losing the 911’s familiar character.
That mix of tradition and update is a big part of the 2017 911’s appeal. It kept the model’s distinctive shape and rear-engine layout, but the changes made it quicker and more efficient. The 911’s reputation for excellent all-around performance and iconic style still comes through strongly, and owners also praise its power, road handling, and fit and finish. At the same time, buyers should expect a pricey car with limited passenger and cargo space, and depreciation remains a concern for some shoppers.

This 911 C4S is a beauty! Quintessential Porsche with semi-modern features. Value is not good, more buyers would be interested and make a deal for $95,000-100,000. Needs to show better history of maintenance and any accidents. Dealer should allow buyer to have independent mechanic review. Dr Dennis Smith

You should start with a history report to confirm the car’s background and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a qualified mechanic. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of hard use, since a sports car like this can vary a lot from one listing to the next. It also helps to compare mileage, cosmetic wear, and any signs of deferred upkeep before you decide.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Porsche 911?
This is a seller’s market, so you should act selectively and be ready to move when a strong listing appears.
- Deal availability: 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 547 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 5.16% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 82.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $113,566, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Porsche 911's resale value?
The current average of $122,444 sits slightly above last year's $116,436.
That upward move suggests the market still values this model year, which can help support resale strength if you buy carefully. The 911’s appeal comes from its mix of performance, style, and brand recognition, and those traits tend to keep buyer interest steady. If you maintain the car well and keep records, you improve your odds of getting stronger value later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Porsche 911 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 5.16% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the 911’s turbo-era updates, strong owner satisfaction, and a market with meaningful but selective deal opportunities, the 2017 is a smart target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge alone.
