CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Lincoln MKZ
overall

Summary
With 426 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,704.00, 29.3% of 2017 Lincoln MKZs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Lincoln MKZ 4.77 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
57.5% of 2017 MKZ models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ stands out as a redesigned take on Lincoln’s entry-level luxury sedan, with a new front end, a new engine, and a long list of standard equipment. It was also given an exclusive new 3.0-liter V6 with class-leading power, which helps explain why this model was positioned as a more serious performance and luxury contender than before. The available owner feedback lines up with that mission, pointing to a smooth ride, strong performance, and a generous feature set for the money.
What makes the 2017 Lincoln MKZ appealing is the way it tries to deliver more than many rivals without asking buyers to add as much equipment. The summary says its standards would cost more from the competition, and it also notes the new Sync 3 infotainment system as a major upgrade over the outgoing version. At the same time, the car’s appeal is not universal: owner comments suggest some shoppers may miss advanced driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring.

Beautiful inside and out. Comfortable and quite ride. Tremendous power and pickup. Feather touch gas pedal and powerful V-6 sends you flying down the road. This roomy AWD sedan handles like a sports car. Lots of leg room even for passengers in the back. Navigation system with Bluetooth that lets you connect your cell for handsfree calling. Loaded with safety features with a 5-star safety rating. Blind spot detection, brake assist, lane assist, collision avoidance system, backup camera, and parking assist. Auto dim for the side and rearview mirrors. Memory for three driver seat and mirror settings.

I ended up purchasing this vehicle and it’s great. Very luxurious and fun to drive. The 3.0 V6 is worth the extra money over the 2.0 I4. Has a lot of nice features and super comfortable. Also is a great deal. I love my MKZ and love driving it

This is a beautiful car inside and out. It has every extra feature you could possibly want and more. It is a great highway road trip car, the level of comfort is superior from the heated and ventilated seats to the spaciousness provided in every zone. The ride is so smooth you dont even realize youre in a car. The power under the hood is also surprising. It may not look like it but you could keep up with or even surpass many sports cars. Also, I hit a deer and the car held up remarkably well, although I do not recommend doing so in yours should you buy one. Overall 10/10.

Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a car that feels luxurious, comfortable, and good value for the money, while also highlighting smooth ride quality and strong performance. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on the MKZ to deliver a polished daily-driving experience over time.
The expert review also describes the MKZ’s power delivery as smooth and notes that the suspension is one of its best parts, which reinforces the sense of dependable, easygoing ownership. Lincoln also includes MyKey and offers inflatable rear seatbelts, which add to the car’s practical ownership appeal.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well, especially if it has higher mileage or optional equipment that could add complexity.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?
At 57.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows uneven wear. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the equipment you want is actually present, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on features and packages.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Premiere comes with front-wheel drive, adaptive suspension, adaptive xenon headlights with LED taillights, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, heated mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3. The Select adds leather upholstery, power steering-wheel adjustment, 4-way power lumbar adjustment, ambient lighting, power-folding mirrors, rear USB ports, and a 110-volt outlet. The Reserve adds the Select Plus content, power trunk, 19-inch alloys, and front-seat ventilation. The Black Label sits above those trims with upgraded leather and wood trim.
- Powertrain: The standard turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic and is described as smooth and fun to drive, with little turbo lag. The available bi-turbo 3.0-liter V6 brings much stronger performance, including 350 hp in FWD form and 400 hp with AWD, plus torque vectoring when equipped.
- Safety package: The Select Plus Package adds navigation, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers with de-ice capability. Some of the most desirable driver-assistance features are not standard on every trim.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 uses an 8-inch touchscreen, supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and is described as fast and intuitive. It is a major upgrade over the previous system.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter FWD model is rated at 24 mpg combined, 21 city, and 31 highway. AWD drops to 23 combined, 21 city, and 28 highway. The 3.0-liter V6 is rated at 21 mpg combined in FWD form and 20 combined with AWD. The hybrid returns 40 mpg combined, 41 city, and 38 highway.
Which 2017 Lincoln MKZ trim should I buy?
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is offered in 4 trim levels: Premiere, Select, Reserve, and Black Label.
Here's the short version:
- Premiere: This is the entry point, but it still brings a strong equipment list, including adaptive suspension, Sync 3, and dual-zone climate control. It makes sense if you want the MKZ experience at the lowest starting price, but you may miss some of the advanced convenience and safety content found higher up.
- Select: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather upholstery, more seat adjustment, ambient lighting, and useful cabin upgrades. If you want a more premium feel without jumping too far in price, this is the trim to focus on.
- Reserve: This is the most complete mainstream trim, adding the Select Plus content, power trunk, 19-inch wheels, and ventilated front seats. It suits you if you want the richest standard equipment without stepping into the special Black Label treatment.
- Black Label: This top trim adds upgraded leather and wood trim and sits above the regular lineup as the most upscale expression of the MKZ. It makes sense if you want the most luxurious presentation and are willing to pay for it.
The safety and driver-assistance features are not fully standard across the lineup, so check package content carefully before you buy.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 26.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 436 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.28% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,796.03, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ's resale value?
The current average of $13,729 sits slightly below last year's $14,050.
That decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to resell soon. If you’re thinking about future resale, the key is to buy a well-equipped example in strong condition so it stays attractive to the next shopper.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ safe?
It earns a five-star overall safety rating from both NHTSA and IIHS, though both organizations also gave it second-best scores in frontal-impact and small-overlap frontal-offset testing.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The MKZ can be fitted with inflatable rear seatbelts, and it includes MyKey, which lets you monitor and limit vehicle use for a second driver. The available driver-assistance content includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers with de-ice capability.
The caveat is that some of the most desirable safety and driver-assistance features are tied to packages rather than standard equipment, so you should verify exactly what’s on the car you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2017 Lincoln MKZ or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 26.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.28% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 brings a redesigned front end, an exclusive new 3.0-liter V6 with class-leading power, and Sync 3 as a major upgrade.
The bottom line: The 2017 is the better pick if you want the redesigned MKZ with stronger powertrain and tech appeal, especially when you find a well-kept example with the right packages. If you’re mainly chasing the lowest possible purchase price, a different year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 offers a strong mix of value, comfort, and equipment.
