At 47.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. Focus your attention on overall condition and maintenance records, since a well-kept car is the best way to reduce surprises later.

Should I buy a 2017 Lexus ES or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 47.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.74% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $19,757, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $21,800 average.
• It offers a value-minded, comfort-focused luxury experience with a quiet cabin and easy-to-use tech.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market case and are comfortable paying more for a well-liked luxury sedan. If your priority is saving money, the 2016 is the better path because it delivers the same comfort-first appeal at a lower entry price.
