How much does the 2017 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 8.94% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,259 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Kia Sorento earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 9.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride and stylish interior, and many also like the comfort and power, especially with the V6 engine option. The Sorento’s broad appeal also lines up with its use case as a safe family vehicle that balances style, practicality, and driving dynamics.

With 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable and trouble-free over time, with praise centered on the smooth ride, comfort, and overall satisfaction. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that Kia engineered this model to exceed demanding warranty coverage expectations, which supports confidence in long-term ownership.

The main used-buyer risk is that some owners reported occasional engine issues, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Sorento?

At 56.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, structure, and repair quality. Pay close attention to the third row and cargo area if you need family utility, since owner feedback notes that the third row can be cramped and not very accessible. It’s also smart to confirm that the infotainment and engine behave as expected during a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from L to SX Limited, with the most affordable models offering the simplest equipment and the upper trims adding a more upscale look and feel. The base L is the trim with the fewest available driver-assistance features, so you should compare equipment carefully if safety tech matters to you.
• Powertrain: You can get a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder, a 240-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, or a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6. The V6 is the strongest choice for power and towing, while the base engine is the least desirable if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning are available on all trims except the basic L. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is available on the LX V6, and only the SX Limited gets the 360-degree surround-view camera.
• Infotainment: Kia’s UVO system is available for most versions and supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri, Pandora, Yelp, and connected services. The system is easy to use, but the screen is smaller than some shoppers may want.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 with all-wheel drive is expected to return 19 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 19.4 mpg on the review loop.

Which 2017 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2017 Kia Sorento is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LX, EX, SX, and SX Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, but it’s the least appealing if you want the Sorento’s best features. It misses out on the broader safety-tech availability found on higher trims, so it makes the most sense only if your priority is keeping the purchase price as low as possible.
• LX: This is the first trim that starts to make the Sorento feel more complete, and it’s the better starting point for most shoppers. It gives you a more usable mix of value and equipment, and it can be a smart choice if you want a well-rounded family SUV without stretching to the upper trims.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many buyers because it adds the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and opens the door to more available equipment. If you want the strongest balance of performance, features, and price, this is the trim to focus on first.
• SX: This trim brings the 290-horsepower V6 as standard, so it’s the right pick if you want stronger acceleration and a more premium feel. It suits you best if you care more about power and refinement than minimizing cost.
• SX Limited: This is the most luxurious version, with the richest interior presentation and the most exclusive equipment, including the 360-degree surround-view camera. It’s the one to choose if you want the most upscale Sorento experience and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is strongest on trims above the basic L, so that’s an important cutoff to keep in mind while shopping.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Kia Sorento?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to reward careful comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,259 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.94% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,891, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $10,911 sits slightly below last year's $11,982.

That decline suggests the Sorento has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help future sellers attract interest if they price competitively. The current trend also shows that the market has already adjusted downward, so resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad price momentum. Well-kept examples with desirable features should still draw attention from shoppers looking for a value-oriented midsize SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2017 Kia Sorento earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Automatic emergency braking is newly available for this model year, and Kia also offers adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Those systems, along with automatic emergency braking, are available on all trims except the basic L. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is available on the LX V6, and the SX Limited is the only trim with a 360-degree surround-view camera.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.94% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out for styling, comfort, safety, technology, value, and driving dynamics.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $9,723, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $10,911 average.
• It brings a more upscale appearance and a refined interior.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around package, the 2017 is the better pick because it combines broad appeal, strong safety content, and a softer used-market price. If your main goal is saving money upfront, the 2016 is worth a look, especially if you find a clean example with the features you want.
