How much does the 2017 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 8.19% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,270 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used Sorentos to compare.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Kia Sorento earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 9.33/10 expert rating.

The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Owners repeatedly praise the smooth ride, stylish interior, and comfort, and many also like the available V6 power. The Sorento’s appeal is strongest if you want a well-rounded midsize SUV that feels refined rather than compromised.

The third row is often described as cramped and not very accessible, so it fits you best if you value balance, comfort, and design more than maximum passenger space. With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people find dependable, with repeated praise for comfort, smoothness, and a trouble-free ownership experience. The review summary also highlights that many owners appreciate the Sorento’s long-term appeal, especially when equipped with the V6.

The expert review reinforces that impression by describing Kia’s engineering as aimed at exceeding demanding warranty coverage, which supports the case for durability-minded shoppers. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a few owners reported occasional engine issues, so condition and service history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Sorento?

At 60.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with multiple owners. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim you expect. If you want the Sorento for family duty, also pay close attention to third-row usability and overall cabin wear.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from L to SX Limited, and the base L is the most stripped-down version. The higher trims add a more upscale look and feel, while the SX Limited stands out with premium Nappa leather and the most luxurious cabin presentation.
• Powertrain: You can find a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, a 240-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, and a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6. The V6 is the strongest choice and can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
• Safety package: Automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning are available on all trims except the basic L. The LX V6 can add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and only the SX Limited gets a 360-degree surround-view camera.
• Infotainment: Kia’s UVO system is available for most versions and includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri, Pandora, Yelp, and connected services. The system is easy to use, but the screen is described as needing to be larger and more modern.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 with all-wheel drive is expected to get 19 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 19.4 mpg on the review loop.

Which 2017 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2017 Kia Sorento is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LX, EX, SX, SX Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, but it’s also the most limited version, especially because the key safety tech is not available here. You should only consider it if price is your top priority and you’re comfortable with the most basic equipment.
• LX: This is the trim where the Sorento starts to make more sense for many shoppers, since it opens the door to more available equipment and better overall flexibility. It’s the best-value starting point if you want a more usable Sorento without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• EX: This is the smart middle ground if you want the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine as standard and a more upscale feel than the lower trims. It’s a strong pick if you want a better balance of performance and equipment.
• SX: This trim brings the 290-horsepower V6 as standard, so it’s the one to choose if you want the strongest everyday performance. It suits you best if power matters more than keeping costs as low as possible.
• SX Limited: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with the most premium cabin presentation and the most upscale details. It’s the one to buy if you want the Sorento to feel closest to a near-luxury SUV.

Safety tech is available across the lineup except on the basic L, and the SX Limited is the only trim with the 360-degree surround-view camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Kia Sorento?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to find value.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,270 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.19% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,136, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $11,136 sits slightly below last year's $12,129.

That decline suggests the Sorento has become more affordable for buyers, which can make it easier for you to sell into a value-conscious market later. If prices stay near this level, future resale will likely depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market appreciation. Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong service records should hold up better than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2017 Kia Sorento earns Top Safety Pick+ status from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a five-star crash test rating from the federal government.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Automatic emergency braking is newly available for this model year, and the Sorento also offers adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Those systems are available on all trims except the basic L, while the LX V6 can add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert. Only the SX Limited gets the 360-degree surround-view camera.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 adds newly available automatic emergency braking and earns Top Safety Pick+ status.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $9,875, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $11,136 average.
• It feels more upscale and refined than a typical family hauler.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around package, the 2017 is the better buy because it combines a lower average price, strong owner satisfaction, and important safety upgrades. If your main goal is to spend less up front, the 2016 is the better value play, especially if you find one in clean condition with the right equipment.
