How much does the 2016 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 7.89% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,161 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Kia Sorento earns a 4.6/5 user rating and an 8.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, performance, smooth ride, handling, and good fuel efficiency. The overview also points to a more upscale appearance and refined interior, which fits shoppers who want a family crossover with style and substance rather than something purely utilitarian. With a roomy cabin and available third row, it suits you well if you want a practical crossover that still feels polished.

There are 31.7% of listings priced as good or great deals, which is a healthy sign of market opportunity.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback specifically highlights reliability, and the expert driving notes reinforce that this Sorento feels composed and dependable in daily use. It delivers a quiet cabin, confident braking, and improved steering feel, all of which support the sense that it’s built to be lived with rather than just admired. The cost-effectiveness notes also point to a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, which adds peace of mind for used buyers.

For used shoppers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the vehicle has been maintained properly, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Kia Sorento?

At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin and mechanicals match the seller’s description. If you’re shopping a higher-trim example, make sure the added equipment still works as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L is well equipped, but the LX adds UVO eServices, roof rails, a rear camera, and more available convenience features. Higher trims bring extras like a panoramic sunroof, power liftgate, navigation, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and more premium audio, so base-trim shoppers should be aware of the feature gap.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder makes 185 hp and is paired with a 6-speed automatic, while the available 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder makes 240 hp and 260 lb-ft. A 3.3-liter V6 is also offered with 290 hp and 252 lb-ft, and the turbo and V6 versions broaden your choices if you want more punch.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes dual front advanced airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, a rollover sensor, ABS, stability control, traction control, and electronic brakeforce distribution. Higher trims add or offer a rear camera, back-up warning, surround-view monitor, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warnings, and lane-departure warnings.
• Infotainment: The Sorento offers an 8-inch display on higher trims, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, UVO eServices, voice-command navigation, Sirius traffic, and available Infinity audio with 10 speakers. The system also supports smartphone app features and maintenance notifications.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbo all-wheel-drive setup is rated at 19 mpg city/25 highway/22 combined, and the review notes an average of 21.0 mpg in mixed driving.

Which 2016 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2016 Kia Sorento is offered in 8 trim levels: L, LX, LX V6, EX, EX V6, SX V6, Limited, and Limited V6.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the value play if you want the Sorento’s core strengths at the lowest entry price. It already includes a long list of standard equipment, but it’s the most basic route if you want to keep costs down.
• LX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds UVO eServices, roof rails, a rear camera, and more available convenience features without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• LX V6: Choose this if you want the stronger V6 engine and standard third-row seating, which makes it a better fit if you need more passenger flexibility.
• EX: This trim is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale feel, standard dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and access to more premium options like navigation and advanced driver aids.
• EX V6: Pick this if you want the EX equipment with the V6 and the added practicality of the third row and rear air conditioning.
• SX V6: This is the more fully loaded V6 choice, with the EX V6’s equipment plus standard premium touches like LED lighting, memory seating, and more upscale trim details.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich choice for shoppers who want the turbo engine and the most advanced available tech and safety options, including available surround-view monitoring and advanced cruise and collision features.
• Limited V6: Choose this if you want the top-end equipment with the V6, third row, and rear air conditioning.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but some of the most advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Kia Sorento?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,161 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.89% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,723, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $9,723 sits slightly below last year's $10,555.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Sorento more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, that means resale value may be steadier if the vehicle is well kept, but you should not expect a strong appreciation story. Condition, mileage, and trim level will matter a lot when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2016 Kia Sorento received a Good rating from IIHS and earned Top Safety Pick status for its crash-test performance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes dual front advanced airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, a rollover sensor, ABS, stability control, traction control, and electronic brakeforce distribution. Higher trims add or offer a rear camera, back-up warning, surround-view monitor, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warnings, and lane-departure warnings. The main caveat is that some of the more advanced driver-assistance features are not standard on every trim.

Should I buy a 2016 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.89% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a more upscale interior, a refined ride, and a new turbo engine option.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,337, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $9,723 average.
• It offers a polished, well-equipped crossover feel at a lower price.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,911, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $9,723 average.
• It improves across styling, comfort, safety, technology, and practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and market availability, the 2016 is the strongest all-around choice. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can save you money, while the 2017 is the better path if you’re willing to pay more for a broader upgrade.
