What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback?

At 48.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on overall condition, because the hatchback’s appeal depends on both practicality and how well it has been maintained. It’s also smart to pay close attention to the features and equipment level, since some versions leave out conveniences that matter in daily use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The hatchback’s design adds cargo space and unique styling touches, while the cabin is smartly laid out with quality materials and effective soundproofing. Base versions can leave you without some of the nicer convenience and tech features, so you should compare equipment carefully before you buy.
• Powertrain: The hatchback uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. In LX, EX, and EX-L Navi trim, it makes 174 hp, while Sport and Sport Touring trims increase output to 180 hp. The 6-speed manual is standard on LX and Sport, while the CVT is optional on LX and Sport and required on EX, EX-L Navi, and Sport Touring.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing adds collision-mitigation braking, lane-keep assist, and active cruise control that works even at low speeds. It is standard on Sport Touring and costs extra on EX-L Navi. LaneWatch is another available aid that shows what’s in your blind spot on the dashboard touchscreen.
• Infotainment: The hatchback can be equipped with a 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. EX-L Navi and Sport Touring add navigation. Manual-transmission versions miss out on the better tech setup and instead get a simpler radio and USB setup.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-economy figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback trim should I buy?

The 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L Navi, Sport Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the simplest way into the hatchback, and it’s the trim to consider if you want the lowest entry point and are comfortable with a more basic equipment set. It gives you the core Civic Hatchback experience, including the standard manual transmission, but you’ll want to check whether the missing convenience and tech features matter to you.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the more engaging 180-hp version of the turbo engine and keeps the manual transmission available. If you want the hatchback’s sporty character without moving too far up the price ladder, this is the trim to focus on.
• EX: This trim is the better pick if you want a more relaxed daily driver with the CVT and more convenience-oriented equipment. It keeps the 174-hp engine and is aimed more at comfort and ease of use than enthusiast appeal.
• EX-L Navi: This is the trim to choose if you want a more upscale feel and built-in navigation. It also opens the door to Honda Sensing as an extra-cost option, which makes it a strong choice for buyers who want more safety tech.
• Sport Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, and it’s the one to buy if you want the most complete package. It comes standard with Honda Sensing and pairs the higher-output engine with the richest feature set.

If safety tech matters to you, the Honda Sensing package is standard on Sport Touring and optional on EX-L Navi.

What is the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback's resale value?

The current average of $15,809 sits slightly below last year's $16,687.

That kind of price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can work against a future seller if you’re trying to maximize return. On the other hand, the drop also means buyers may see the car as more attainable now, which can help keep demand steady for clean, well-equipped examples.

If you maintain the car well and keep documentation organized, you’ll be in a better position to protect value when it’s time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
