Why it stands out
The 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty stands out as a heavy-duty pickup that combines serious capability with a more modern, better-equipped feel than older work trucks. For this generation, Ford moved to a vastly increased use of aluminum alloy in the body, which made the truck 700 pounds lighter on average and more fuel efficient without sacrificing towing capacity. It also brought a broad set of driver-assistance and safety features, including blind-spot monitoring, forward collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warnings, and a surround-view camera system with seven cameras. For buyers who need a truck that can work hard but still feel current, that mix of strength and technology is a major part of the appeal.
Power and towing are central to the 2017 model’s identity. The standard 6.2-liter “Boss” V8 made 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, while the available 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel made 440 horsepower and 925 pound-feet of torque in these years. The truck could tow up to 21,000 pounds with a conventional hitch or 31,700 pounds with a gooseneck, and many configurations still delivered substantial payload and towing numbers. Inside, the available SYNC 3 infotainment system, updated MyFord Touch setup, and 8.0-inch or 12.0-inch touchscreens helped make the cabin feel more contemporary, especially in higher trims.
That said, the 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty is still a big, expensive truck, and its ride quality remains a tradeoff when the bed is empty. The source also notes that diesel models are more common than gas ones in these years and cost more, and that the generation’s reliability record is strong overall, though the 2017 model year drew some criticism for the durability of various suspension components. Even with that caveat, it remains appealing for buyers who want maximum towing ability, a wide range of trims and configurations, and more comfort and technology than heavy-duty pickups once offered.

This truck is amazing!! Very satisfied with its Platinum features. It was a great investment and upgrade to my 23 year old truck. New car prices are ridiculous. I don’t agree with new car prices, but I do think a fully loaded used vehicle that is well taken care of is more in my price range. I believe if you’re going to buy something with a high, new car price, why not get an older model with similar features for half the price.

Is the 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback highlights dependable power, rugged performance, and confidence in its towing ability, which are all encouraging signs for used-truck shoppers. The same feedback also suggests the truck’s appeal holds up over time because buyers value its work-ready nature and comfort. For long-term ownership, you should still pay close attention to maintenance history and suspension condition so you can reduce the risk of expensive surprises.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
At 68.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and ownership history before you get too far into the process. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the suspension, steering, brakes, and any signs of heavy towing or hard use, since those areas matter most on a truck like this. It also helps to focus on overall condition inside and out, because a well-kept example is more likely to deliver the ownership experience you want.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

What is the 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty's resale value?
The current average of $38,460 sits slightly below last year's $40,519.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to sell later. If you keep the truck in strong condition and maintain it well, you should be in a better position to protect value. Trucks with broad buyer appeal and strong owner satisfaction tend to stay easier to resell, especially when they have the capability and equipment shoppers want.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.08% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 is the better choice if you want a well-liked heavy-duty truck with strong owner satisfaction, a softer price trend, and enough inventory to shop carefully. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 remains a compelling pick when you want capability and a more modern feel in the same package.
