How much does the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD cost?

Prices are up 2.85% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 483 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD a good car?

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD stands out as a heavy-duty truck built for serious work, with the kind of towing and payload capability that puts it squarely in the big-league pickup class. It combines that capability with a more modern feature set than earlier heavy-duty Chevys, including available digital displays, a touchscreen, and connected tech.

For you, that means it makes the most sense if you want a durable diesel-heavy-duty pickup with strong towing credentials and useful technology. The cabin is roomy and comfy, if a little basic, and the truck’s fuel mileage is only average, so it fits best when capability matters more than refinement. 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD reliable?

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is generally described as reliable and trouble-free when properly maintained, but the generation also has a mixed reliability record overall. That makes maintenance history especially important when you’re evaluating a used example.

If you plan to keep one long term, your biggest risk is buying a truck that has been worked hard without consistent upkeep, so service records and condition matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

At 67.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on the truck’s overall condition, especially signs of heavy use, because a work-focused heavy-duty pickup can hide wear that matters later. Focus on maintenance records, drivetrain condition, and evidence that the truck was cared for rather than just used hard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly when the right truck appears.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 483 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.85% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 67.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $33,437, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD's resale value?

The current average of $35,065 sits slightly above last year's $34,092.

That upward move suggests the truck has held value reasonably well, which is helpful if you plan to resell later. A rising average price can support your future asking price, especially if your truck has strong maintenance records and clean history. If you buy well and keep the truck in good condition, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.85% year-over-year.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want the newer diesel-heavy-duty setup and a more modern feature set than the 2016, while still keeping an eye on price. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby older year may offer a lower entry point, but the 2017 gives you a compelling balance of capability, tech, and market support.
