The truck rolls into 2023 retaining its powertrain options and trim level choices, including gas and diesel engine options and high-end trims with luxurious finishes and styling. ## Design The Silverado HD isn’t exactly easy on the eyes, as it takes the already controversially busy styling of the standard truck and supersizes it. Lower trims come with plenty of plastic on their exterior, and higher trims add acres of chrome, but the truck is still huge and rugged, and there’s no way around that. Chevy offers off-road packages that bring beefier suspension and hardcore tires, and the truck can be configured in a number of body styles, including with dual rear wheels. ## Powertrain Two powertrains are available for the 2023 3500 HD. The standard engine is a gas 6.6-liter V8 making 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed automatic. The available 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 comes makes 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque, and comes mated to a ten-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) comes standard, and buyers can upgrade to four-wheel drive (4WD). Towing reaches 14,500 pounds with the gas engine and 18,500 pounds with the available diesel. ## Interior Chevy plans to overhaul the 3500’s interior for 2024, but the 2023 model retains the older cabin design. Though nice in top trims, the interior is designed for work, and the finishes reflect that rough-and-tumble attitude. The center console is dominated by a large armrest, and the center stack features plenty of physical buttons and controls. The upright dash is large and imposing, but the rest of the cabin feels open and spacious. ## Technology Chevy offers a larger 8-inch touchscreen, which is best for most buyers, but the smaller standard unit brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The truck comes with physical volume and tuning knobs, which makes controlling the audio system much easier and less distracting while driving. The larger unit brings SiriusXM radio, voice controls, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and more USB inputs, and users can store settings for different trailers for easier towing. ## Safety The Silverado HD is available with a range of safety equipment, but it’s all optional. Available tech includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warnings, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, and several trailering-related safety features. ## Pricing The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado HD starts at $41,700 before options, taxes, and destination. The top trims with a dual rear-wheel body style and 4WD can reach $90,000.
