CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Acura TLX

Summary
With 478 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,702, 34.1% of 2017 Acura TLXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Acura TLX 4.8 / 5 stars.
54.4% of 2017 TLX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Acura TLX stands out as a premium sport sedan that was designed to bridge the gap between Acura’s former TSX and TL sedans. It offered two engine choices, and the base four-cylinder version paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission delivered 206 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque, along with EPA estimates of 24 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined. Buyers who wanted more power could choose the V6, which produced 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque and could be equipped with SH-AWD. That combination gave the TLX a broad appeal: it could be efficient and comfortable, but still feel quick and engaging when driven with more intent.
The 2017 model also came with a distinctive set of features for the class. Standard equipment included four-wheel steering, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and brake lights, a sunroof, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, heated front seats with power adjustability, and a seven-speaker audio system. Its infotainment setup used two displays, one eight inches and one seven inches, and the optional Technology Package added real leather seating surfaces, voice command capability, navigation, and an ELS 10-speaker premium audio system. For V6 models, the available Advance Package added 18-inch alloy wheels, parking sensors front and rear, LED foglights, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic braking for forward collision mitigation.
At the same time, the 2017 Acura TLX was not without drawbacks. The nine-speed automatic attached to the V6 earned criticism for reliability, and owners also reported transmission behavior they did not like, especially in eco and normal modes. Even so, the TLX’s smooth ride, responsive handling in sport mode, and ability to absorb rough pavement helped make it an appealing choice for buyers who wanted a refined sedan with a sporty edge.

Very responsive especially in sport+mode and shift manually. All wheel drive sticks to the road. Abosb bumpy roads like a champ. The brakes can use some improvement though. The transmission will hesitate in eco and normal mode. Just use sport and sport+ and itll take care of it. Although you can totally tell the difference in ride quality in each mode. 25 mpg all around for a V6 is not too bad. Very quiet interior. The upgraded sound system sounds better with Spotify than FM (with subscription gives you higher quality streaming). Would love to have Android Auto for Google Maps, but not offer till 2018. Wish we can retrofit the software. But overall, very happy with its value, performance and comfort.

How much does the 2017 Acura TLX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,678 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,320 |
| Year-Round High | $16,233 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,222 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.35% |
Prices have softened 3.35% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 478 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2017 Acura TLX a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Acura TLX earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, fast performance, and beautiful interior, and they also like the responsive handling in sport mode and its ability to absorb bumpy roads. For you, that means this model fits well if you want a premium sport sedan that balances comfort with a more engaging drive. With 34.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also points to a dependable-feeling driving experience, especially in the way the car delivers a smooth ride and holds up well over rough pavement. At the same time, some drivers noted transmission behavior they did not like, so used buyers should pay close attention to how the car shifts and whether maintenance records support long-term ownership.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Acura TLX?
At 54.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. Then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to the transmission, since owner feedback points to concerns there. Focus on overall condition, service records, and how the car behaves in normal driving, not just how it looks in photos.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Acura TLX?
This looks like a moderate market, so you can buy now if the right listing appears, but you should still compare carefully.
- Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 478 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.35% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 54.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,320, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $15,678 sits slightly below last year's $16,222.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, the current trend means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum. Well-kept examples should still attract interest, but you should expect buyers to be selective.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.35% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $14,691, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,678 average.
- It emphasizes Acura’s effort to blend driving appeal with upscale character.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $18,848, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $15,678 average.
- It adds a redesigned face, faster infotainment, retuned transmissions, and extra standard safety.
The bottom line: The 2017 is the best all-around pick if you want a strong mix of owner satisfaction, current pricing, and decent deal availability. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2016 is the value play, while the 2018 makes sense if you want the newer updates and are willing to pay more.
