CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Acura TLX

Summary
With 38 currently listed for sale near Los Angeles, CA and an average price of $16,122.00, 28.9% of 2017 Acura TLXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Acura TLX 4.8 / 5 stars.
100.0% of 2017 TLX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Acura TLX stands out as a midsize luxury sedan that was designed to bridge the gap between Acura’s former TSX and TL sedans. It offered two engine choices, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder or a 3.5-liter V6, and paired them with automatic transmissions only. That setup gave buyers a range of personalities to choose from, while the available SH-AWD system added extra appeal for shoppers who wanted more traction and a more engaging driving feel.
For 2017, the TLX’s base equipment was unusually well rounded. It included an innovative four-wheel steering system, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and brake lights, a sunroof, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, heated front seats with power adjustability, and a seven-speaker audio system. The cabin also used a two-screen infotainment layout, with an eight-inch display mounted on top of the dash and a seven-inch center display. Buyers who wanted more could add the Technology Package for real leather seating surfaces, voice command capability, navigation, and an ELS 10-speaker premium audio system, while V6 models could be equipped with an Advance Package that brought 18-inch wheels, parking sensors, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic braking for forward collision mitigation.
The 2017 TLX also has some clear limitations. Owners commonly praised its smooth ride, fast performance, and attractive interior, along with responsive handling in sport mode and a willingness to absorb rough pavement. At the same time, transmission behavior drew criticism, especially in eco and normal modes, and some drivers wished for Android Auto, which was not available until 2018. That mix of strengths and shortcomings makes the 2017 Acura TLX appealing to buyers who want a comfortable, well-equipped luxury sedan with a sporty edge, but who are willing to accept a few compromises.

Very responsive especially in sport+mode and shift manually. All wheel drive sticks to the road. Abosb bumpy roads like a champ. The brakes can use some improvement though. The transmission will hesitate in eco and normal mode. Just use sport and sport+ and itll take care of it. Although you can totally tell the difference in ride quality in each mode. 25 mpg all around for a V6 is not too bad. Very quiet interior. The upgraded sound system sounds better with Spotify than FM (with subscription gives you higher quality streaming). Would love to have Android Auto for Google Maps, but not offer till 2018. Wish we can retrofit the software. But overall, very happy with its value, performance and comfort.

How much does the 2017 Acura TLX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,875 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,319.67 |
| Year-Round High | $16,475.16 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,486 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.70% |
Prices have softened 3.70% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 494 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $15,319.67, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Acura TLX a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Acura TLX earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, fast performance, and beautiful interior. You also see repeated approval for the responsive handling in sport mode and the way it absorbs bumpy roads.
If you want a midsize luxury sedan with a comfortable daily-driving feel and a sporty edge, this model year fits that use case well. The market also shows 32.2% of listings as good or great deals, so you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the car’s smooth ride and trouble-free comfort over rough pavement. That said, some drivers mention transmission behavior in eco and normal modes, so you should pay close attention to how the car drives in everyday conditions.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the transmission and overall condition feel consistent before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Acura TLX?
At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report on every candidate and prioritize cars with clean records when possible. A pre-purchase inspection is especially valuable here, since condition can vary meaningfully from one listing to the next.
Focus on how the transmission behaves, how the cabin and electronics function, and whether the car feels as smooth as the owner feedback suggests.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Acura TLX?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

- Inventory: There are 494 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.70% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 53.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,319.67, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $15,875 sits slightly below last year's $16,486.
That softer pricing suggests the model has become a bit easier for buyers to access, which can also temper what you may recover later as a seller. If you buy well now, you may be better positioned to limit depreciation pressure over your ownership period.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.70% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $14,567, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,875 average.
- It reflects Acura’s effort to rebuild its identity and recapture brand passion.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $18,889, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $15,875 average.
- It adds a refreshed face, faster infotainment, retuned transmissions, and more standard safety.
The bottom line: The 2017 is the best all-around pick if you want a well-rated TLX with softer pricing and decent deal availability. If your priority is spending less, the 2016 is the value path; if you want newer updates and can stretch your budget, the 2018 is the upgrade path.
