Why it stands out
The 2018 Acura TLX stands out as Acura’s answer to the 3 Series, and for 2018 it gets a slight refresh along with a sporty new package. It has offered competent performance since it was introduced in 2015, and Acura’s updates for this model year are aimed at making it more appealing to shoppers who may have overlooked it before.
What makes the 2018 TLX especially distinctive is the combination of a redesigned face, a faster infotainment system, retuned transmissions, and extra standard safety. The sporty new A-Spec trims are described as the real winners for 2018, giving the TLX a more performance-focused edge. Owners also tend to praise its luxury features, smooth performance, stylish design, powerful V6 engine, and comfortable interior, though some find the technology package complicated and the price tag high.

I absolutely love my TLX!! So I was pretty adamant about getting into a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0 Sport. I test drove it, was not a fan. So I decided to look at something comparable. Honestly, the Acura was far superior. Both in looks, performance (it’s a V6) so it’s got quite a punch, yet it drives so smooth. I love my car! Not sure I’ll ever own anything but Acura from now on!!

This is my second TLX. While I love driving in luxury, I refuse to pay over $50,000 for a vehicle. This car is fantastic all around. The interior is stylish and rich, while the exterior is impressively sporty. The hidden gem is the engine and the ride. You will not be disappointed with this car!

There are 506 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $18,061.02, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 Acura TLX a good car?
Yes — the 4.8/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.83/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the luxury features, smooth performance, stylish design, powerful V6 engine, and comfortable interior. The overview also points to a refreshed face, a faster infotainment system, retuned transmissions, and extra standard safety, which helps the TLX make more sense if you want a midsize luxury sedan with a sporty edge. With 32.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s also a decent amount of market value to work with.
Is the 2018 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary emphasizes that people appreciate the TLX’s smooth performance, comfortable interior, and stylish design, while also valuing the luxury features and powerful V6. That combination suggests a car many owners feel good about living with over time. The expert notes also point to Honda build quality and a predictable, linear power delivery, both of which support a dependable-feeling ownership experience.
AcuraWatch is standard, which adds a layer of everyday confidence, and the package structure means you can get a well-equipped car without needing to chase every option. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is buying a neglected example with prior damage or worn brakes, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Acura TLX?
At 57.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been driven hard or shows signs of cosmetic repair. Pay close attention to brake condition, since repeated hard use can bring fade, and make sure the infotainment and driver-assistance features work as expected. If you’re considering a higher-trim car, confirm that the equipment you want is actually present, since some features are tied to packages.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base TLX gives you 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated sports seats with faux leather, and Bluetooth, while higher trims add more upscale equipment and a sportier character.
- Powertrain: The base 2.4-liter engine makes 206 hp and 182 lb-ft and uses an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the V6 brings 290 hp and 267 lb-ft with a 9-speed transmission and quicker acceleration.
- Safety package: AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are tied to optional packages or higher trims.
- Infotainment: The refreshed system is faster, but the dual-screen layout and dated graphics can still feel complicated. The Tech Package adds navigation with real-time traffic, an upgraded 10-speaker stereo with HD Radio, and a color multi-information display.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 23 mpg city and 33 highway for 27 mpg combined. The V6 is rated at 20 mpg city and 32 highway for 24 mpg combined, and AWD keeps the combined figure at 24 mpg.
Which 2018 Acura TLX trim should I buy?
The 2018 Acura TLX is offered in 4 trim levels: TLX FWD, TLX V6, TLX V6 with Technology Package, TLX V6 with Technology Package and A-Spec Package.
Here's the short version:
- TLX FWD: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core TLX experience with the 2.4-liter engine, 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, and a solid list of standard comfort and safety features. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
- TLX V6: This is the better-value choice if you want stronger acceleration and the smoother, more powerful V6 without jumping straight into the pricier packages. It adds the 3.5-liter engine, 9-speed transmission, 18-inch wheels, and a more substantial driver’s seat setup.
- TLX V6 with Technology Package: This is the trim to target if you want the most balanced mix of luxury and convenience. It adds navigation, real leather, GPS-linked climate control, an upgraded stereo, and blind-spot monitoring, making it the best-value trim for many shoppers.
- TLX V6 with Technology Package and A-Spec Package: This is the enthusiast pick. It adds the sportier visual treatment, stiffer suspension tuning, more aggressive dampers, a thicker rear stabilizer, a sportier steering ratio, and 19-inch wheels, so it’s the one to choose if you want the most distinctive and performance-focused TLX.
AcuraWatch is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras remain tied to higher trims or packages.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Acura TLX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 506 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.09% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,061.02, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $18,889 sits slightly below last year's $19,097.
That kind of price movement suggests the TLX has softened a bit in the market, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level rather than just the badge alone. Well-kept examples with desirable packages should hold up better than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Acura TLX safe?
earns five-star ratings from NHTSA, while IIHS gave it Acceptable ratings in the Driver’s Side Small Overlap and Headlight tests and a Marginal rating for child-seat anchor ease of use.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are not standard and are reserved for optional packages or higher trims.
The IIHS child-seat anchor result is the main caveat to keep in mind, and the braking performance note is worth remembering if you plan to drive the car hard.
Should I buy a 2018 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.09% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 refresh brings a faster infotainment system, retuned transmissions, extra standard safety, and the sporty A-Spec package.
The bottom line: If you want the most updated version of this first-generation TLX, the 2018 is the one to focus on because it adds meaningful improvements without changing the car’s core value proposition. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may save you money, but you’ll want to weigh that against the 2018’s refresh, stronger safety story, and more appealing A-Spec option.
