How much does the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle cost?

Prices are up 3.40% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 297 listings available, which gives you a moderate amount of shopping room.

Is the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle a good car?

Generally — the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle earns a 4.3/5 user rating, which points to solid owner approval for this model year. The Beetle stands out for blending retro style with modern hardware, while also offering a roomier interior and more trunk space than earlier versions. It is best suited to you if you want something distinctive rather than purely sensible, since its charm and everyday usability are a bigger part of the appeal than maximum practicality. 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Beetle’s reliability picture is mixed, with engines and timing chains noted as potential trouble spots. Its visibility also isn’t great, so you should pay close attention to how the car has aged and whether any warning signs show up during a test drive or inspection. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is manageable only if the car’s maintenance history is clean and the mechanical condition checks out.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Volkswagen Beetle?

At 50.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of past collision work, then make sure the engine and timing components are evaluated carefully. Because the Beetle’s visibility and reliability concerns matter more than average here, condition should carry extra weight in your decision.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Volkswagen Beetle?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 297 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.40% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 50.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,992, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle's resale value?

The current average of $14,971 sits slightly above last year's $14,479.

That upward move suggests the Beetle has held buyer interest well enough to support pricing. If you buy carefully and keep the car in strong condition, you may be able to preserve more of its value than you would with a less distinctive small car. The model’s unusual styling and usable cabin help it stay appealing to shoppers who want personality without giving up everyday practicality.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Volkswagen Beetle or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 50.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.40% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,293, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $14,971 average.
• It offers retro styling with trim flexibility and strong appeal for buyers who want personality.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want the newer-year market and are comfortable paying more for it. If your priority is saving money, the 2015 is the better value path, especially if you find one in strong condition with the features you want.
