At 39.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body panels, paint consistency, alignment, and signs of uneven wear that could point to past collision work. Because this model is valued for its premium feel and driving character, you should focus on overall condition as much as mileage and price.

What is the 2016 Lexus IS's resale value?

The current average of $18,177 sits slightly below last year's $18,350.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than sharply weakening. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you should have a reasonable path to preserving value. The model’s strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 39.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $17,390, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $18,177 average.
• It emphasizes driving enjoyment and value while still delivering quality and refinement.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want the stronger overall market position and a model year with excellent owner satisfaction. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2015 is the better value-oriented alternative, especially if you find one in clean condition.
