CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Honda Civic
overall

Summary
With 2,538 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,967.00, 28.3% of 2016 Honda Civics for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.

Why it stands out
The 2016 Honda Civic stands out by moving beyond the old image of being merely thrift-focused and dependable. According to its test-drive summary, this all-new Civic takes bold chances in elevating small-car fashion, refinement, and build quality, and it succeeds. That makes it appealing to buyers who want a compact car that feels more polished and more modern than the Civic’s traditional reputation might suggest.
It also keeps the qualities that have long made the Civic attractive, including thrift and dependability, while packaging them in a very small, fun-to-drive form. Owner feedback reinforces that appeal, with praise for its smooth drive, reliability, impressive fuel economy, stylish design, and high safety ratings. A few owners did note that its height can make it harder to get in and out, which is a useful reminder that its strengths in style and efficiency come with some everyday tradeoffs.

The 2016 Honda EX is a wonderful car. The MPG is great combined with the durability of a Honda. I upgraded from a 2002 Civic EX and got my last one up to 199K miles (only performing standard maintenance checkups). 100% worth the value, and I would recommend these cars to anyone.

Love, love, love my Hondas and this one is no different. Drives so smoothly and the hatchback is very handy. Would definitely recommend.

I love the smoothness of the drive. I love the size; I can zip in and out of any parking space. The real deal breaker for me was the left hand lane warning mirror. I do wish it was a little higher from the ground. I do struggle a little bit to get in and out.

| Year-Round High | $14,385.96 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,383 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.24% |
Prices have softened 3.24% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,551 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $13,345.56, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2016 Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the 4.86/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert score is 8/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its smooth drive, reliability, and impressive fuel economy, and they also like the stylish design and high safety ratings. That lines up with the overview’s focus on a compact car that feels more polished and modern while still staying practical and fun to drive.
With 29.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.
Is the 2016 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, and the broader summary reinforces that this Civic is viewed as dependable and trouble-free for everyday use. The expert drive summary also emphasizes thrift and dependability, which supports the idea that this is a car you can count on over time.
Honda Sensing adds a useful layer of driver assistance, and the package includes forward-collision alert, auto braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. On the sedan, it’s available across every trim, which helps reduce the need to move up-market just to get key safety tech.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is buying a neglected example, so condition and maintenance history matter more than the badge alone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Civic?
At 46.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a prior collision. Focus on body alignment, paint consistency, tire wear, and any signs that repairs were not completed cleanly. Because the Civic’s appeal depends so much on refinement and safety, condition matters a lot.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LX is the most stripped-down choice, while higher trims add more upscale touches like the cleaner interior presentation, LED lighting, and more premium wheel and exterior details.
- Powertrain: The base 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, while the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder makes 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. The CVT is standard on all but the base LX manual, and front-wheel drive is the only drivetrain.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward-collision alert, auto braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. It’s standard on every sedan trim, while the coupe gets it only on the Touring.
- Infotainment: The system uses an Android-based interface with customizable screens, Garmin navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth streaming, and other app connectivity. The Touring also adds a customizable digital instrument panel.
- Fuel efficiency: CVT-equipped models are rated at 31 mpg city and 42 highway, while the manual LX is rated at 27/40. Over 300 miles, the test vehicle averaged close to 37 mpg.
Which 2016 Honda Civic trim should I buy?
The 2016 Honda Civic is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-T, EX-L, Touring.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LX is the value play, but it lacks the richer presentation and premium touches found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The EX is the best balance if you want more equipment without jumping all the way to the top.
- Premium/top trim: The Touring is the most fully equipped choice, with the most upscale look, the strongest tech presentation, and the most premium feel.
- Off-road trim: Not applicable here.
Honda Sensing is a major safety-package note to keep in mind, and it’s available on every sedan trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Civic?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,551 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.24% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 46.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,345.56, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Honda Civic's resale value?
The current average of $13,918 sits slightly below last year's $14,383.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point if you plan to keep the car for a while. For a future seller, the current trend means there may be less upside than in a rising market, so condition and trim choice will matter more when it’s time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Honda Civic safe?
The 2016 Civic sedan earns five-star ratings from NHTSA for frontal crash, side crash, and rollover risk, and the Civic sedan and coupe were named a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision alert, auto braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. On the sedan, it’s available on every trim; on the coupe, it’s limited to the Touring.
The safety story is especially strong here, but you should still verify whether a used example has the optional package you want, since that equipment changes the ownership experience a lot.
Should I buy a 2016 Honda Civic or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 46.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.24% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The all-new redesign brings a more refined, modern feel with strong safety and efficiency.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,262, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,918 average.
- It delivers the basics buyers want with unusual ease.
