CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Honda Civic
overall

Summary
With 2,538 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,967.00, 28.3% of 2016 Honda Civics for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Honda Civic 4.86 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2016 Honda Civic stands out by moving beyond the old image of being merely thrift-focused and dependable. According to its test-drive summary, this all-new Civic takes bold chances in elevating small-car fashion, refinement, and build quality, and it succeeds. That makes it appealing to buyers who want a compact car that feels more polished and more modern than the Civic’s traditional reputation might suggest.
It also keeps the qualities that have long made the Civic attractive, including thrift and dependability, while packaging them in a very small, fun-to-drive form. Owner feedback reinforces that appeal, with praise for its smooth drive, reliability, impressive fuel economy, stylish design, and high safety ratings. A few owners did note that its height can make it harder to get in and out, which is a useful reminder that its strengths in style and efficiency come with some everyday tradeoffs.

The 2016 Honda EX is a wonderful car. The MPG is great combined with the durability of a Honda. I upgraded from a 2002 Civic EX and got my last one up to 199K miles (only performing standard maintenance checkups). 100% worth the value, and I would recommend these cars to anyone.

Love, love, love my Hondas and this one is no different. Drives so smoothly and the hatchback is very handy. Would definitely recommend.

I love the smoothness of the drive. I love the size; I can zip in and out of any parking space. The real deal breaker for me was the left hand lane warning mirror. I do wish it was a little higher from the ground. I do struggle a little bit to get in and out.

See more price trendsHow much does the 2016 Honda Civic cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,046 |
| Year-Round Low | $13,346.78 |
| Year-Round High | $14,420.77 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,423 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.61% |
Prices have softened 2.61% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,543 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $13,346.78, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2016 Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the 2016 Honda Civic earns a 4.86/5 user rating, and that lines up with its 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its smooth drive, reliability, and impressive fuel economy. Reviewers also highlight its stylish design and strong safety reputation, which fits the Civic’s more refined, tech-forward direction for this year. If you want a compact car that works well for daily commuting and still feels upscale, the Civic’s overall package makes sense. The market also shows 29.2% good or great deals, so you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Reviewers repeatedly describe the Civic as reliable and dependable, with a reputation for trouble-free ownership and strong long-term appeal. The expert evaluation also emphasizes thrift and dependability, reinforcing that this is a car built to be counted on. Honda’s maintenance perk for the first scheduled visit adds a little extra ownership value early on.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the Civic’s core durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn hard.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Civic?
At 47.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has any bodywork or panel-fit concerns. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s electronics, safety systems, and interior features all work as intended. Because this model year has a lot of equipment spread across trims, it’s worth confirming exactly which features are present on the specific car you’re considering.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LX is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more upscale materials, chrome accents, LED lighting, and a cleaner, more premium cabin presentation.
- Powertrain: The 2.0-liter four-cylinder is standard on the lower trims, while the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder adds more power and stronger torque delivery. CVT-equipped models are tuned for smooth efficiency, and the manual is limited to the base LX.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward-collision alert, auto braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. It is standard on every sedan trim, while the coupe gets it only on the Touring.
- Infotainment: The system includes a quick interface, Garmin navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth streaming, and other app connectivity. The Touring trim adds a customizable digital instrument panel.
- Fuel efficiency: CVT-equipped models return 31 mpg city and 42 mpg highway, while the manual LX gets 27 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. Over 300 miles, the car averaged close to 37 mpg.
Which 2016 Honda Civic trim should I buy?
The 2016 Honda Civic is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-T, EX-L, Touring.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LX gives you the essentials, but it lacks the richer cabin presentation, upgraded lighting, and broader feature set found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The EX is the best balance if you want more equipment without jumping all the way to the top; it builds on the base car with a more complete everyday feature set.
- Premium/top trim: The Touring is the most luxurious and tech-heavy choice, with the most upscale presentation, the strongest feature content, and the most advanced convenience equipment.
Honda Sensing is available on every sedan trim, which makes even lower trims appealing if safety tech is a priority.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Civic?
This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,543 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.61% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 47.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,346.78, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Honda Civic's resale value?
The current average of $14,046 sits slightly below last year's $14,423.
That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also suggests the Civic has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation. If you plan to resell later, a well-kept example should still benefit from the model’s strong reputation and broad shopper appeal. Cars with this level of owner satisfaction tend to stay in demand, which helps support resale value over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Honda Civic safe?
The 2016 Civic sedan earns five-star ratings from NHTSA for frontal crash, side crash, and rollover risk, and the Civic sedan and coupe were named a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision alert, auto braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. On the sedan, that suite is available across the trim range; on the coupe, it is limited to the Touring trim. The backup camera also offers three views, including a top view and an extra-wide shot.
Should I buy a 2016 Honda Civic or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 47.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.61% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The all-new 2016 Civic succeeds in elevating small-car fashion, refinement, and build quality.
Consider the 2015 if:
