How much does the 2016 Ford F-150 cost?

Prices have softened 5.74% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,534 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of trucks to compare.

Is the 2016 Ford F-150 a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Ford F-150 earns a 4.62/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise the comfort, power, and variety of features, and they also call out the smooth ride and spacious interior. The turbo V6 engines are a recurring highlight, which fits the truck’s upscale, well-equipped character.

That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a pickup that leans into luxury without losing its truck identity, especially in higher trims. For shoppers who want a full-size truck that feels more premium than basic workhorse, that combination is a major part of the appeal.

31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there’s meaningful shopping opportunity if you compare carefully.

Is the 2016 Ford F-150 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers’ feedback points to a truck that feels comfortable, powerful, and well equipped, while also being viewed as dependable enough for everyday use. The expert evaluation also notes that the F-150 rates better than average for reliability, which supports the idea that it can be a solid long-term ownership choice.

Ford’s twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 and the truck’s broader engineering give it a strong durability reputation in this model year, and the expert review also frames it as a truck that can be counted on for serious use. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the concept and more about how well a specific truck has been maintained over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford F-150?

At 66.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, frame condition, and signs of prior repair. Because used examples can be expensive, especially at higher mileage, it’s worth focusing on overall condition rather than just trim level or equipment count.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from XL through Limited, and the Limited trim is positioned as the most luxurious version with 22-inch wheels, satin-finish accents, caramel-colored Mojave leather, genuine eucalyptus wood, and aluminum trim. The base XL is much simpler, so you should expect a big gap in appearance and amenities as you move up the range.
• Powertrain: The standard twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 makes 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, and it’s paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It’s also rated at 17 mpg combined, with a test-loop result of 16.7 mpg.
• Safety package: Ford offers adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, plus blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and a lane-keeping system. 911 Assist is included through Sync, and some driver-assistance features are available rather than standard.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 brings a capacitive touch display with swipe capability, improved voice recognition, Siri compatibility, Wi-Fi software updates, and available navigation with pinch-to-zoom. Ford also offers a 360-degree camera system and Pro Trailer Backup Assist.
• Fuel efficiency: The truck is rated at 17 mpg combined, and the test result was 16.7 mpg.

Which 2016 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2016 Ford F-150 is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the work-focused starting point, and it’s the trim to consider if you want the most basic entry into the lineup. It comes with the standard 3.5-liter V6 in the example described, and it leaves out the upscale touches that define the higher trims.
• XLT: This is the first step up if you want more everyday comfort and flexibility without jumping all the way to luxury pricing. It’s the sensible middle ground for shoppers who want more equipment than XL but don’t need the premium image of the upper trims.
• Lariat: This trim is the better choice if you want a more polished truck with a stronger premium feel. It sits in the part of the lineup where the F-150 starts to feel more upscale without reaching the top-end price of the Limited.
• King Ranch: This is for buyers who want a more distinctive, upscale personality and a richer cabin experience. It’s a strong fit if you care about premium presentation as much as capability.
• Platinum: This trim is aimed at shoppers who want luxury-first truck appeal with a more refined look and feel. It’s the right move if you want the upscale character of the F-150 without going all the way to the Limited’s price point.
• Limited: This is the best-value choice if you want the most luxurious version and are shopping for the truck’s premium side first. It adds the richest materials and the most attention-grabbing equipment, making it the clear pick for buyers who want the F-150 to feel like a luxury vehicle in all but name.

Ford also offers useful safety-related features, including adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assistance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford F-150?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you have room to shop, but the best trucks still deserve quick action.

• Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,534 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.74% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,880, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $18,889 sits slightly below last year's $20,040.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations. If you buy well and keep the truck in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who pays near the top of the range.

The F-150’s broad appeal helps support demand, especially because shoppers continue to value its comfort, power, and premium features. Trucks with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Ford F-150 safe?

The Ford F-150 earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a 4-star rollover resistance rating, and the IIHS calls it a Top Safety Pick.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford includes 911 Assist through Sync, which can automatically contact emergency responders if the airbags deploy and a paired device is in the vehicle. Available driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and a lane-keeping system.

One caveat is that brake support is not the same as automatic emergency braking, and the lane-keeping and forward-collision systems can issue false warnings in some situations. The truck also misses out on Top Safety Pick+ status because it lacks automatic emergency braking.

Should I buy a 2016 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.74% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds the upscale Limited trim and Sync 3, making the truck feel more luxurious and more modern.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $17,691, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $18,889 average.
• It emphasizes aluminum-body innovation and broad configurability.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $21,392, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $18,889 average.
• It brings back the Raptor with serious off-road intent and major chassis upgrades.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of luxury feel, strong owner satisfaction, and a softer used-market price, the 2016 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 is the value alternative, while the 2017 makes sense if you want the more performance-focused direction and are willing to pay more.
