How much does the 2016 Toyota Tundra cost?

Is the 2016 Toyota Tundra a good car?

Generally — the 2016 Toyota Tundra earns 4.3/5 from owners and 6.5/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

Owners repeatedly point to its power, reliability, smooth ride, interior comfort, and resale value. That lines up with the Tundra’s straightforward, work-ready appeal, especially if you want a full-size truck with traditional character rather than the newest powertrain or ride-tech advances.

33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Toyota Tundra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback highlights reliability, dependability, and a truck that many drivers feel they can count on over time. The expert notes also describe the Tundra as stout and capable, with a traditional truck setup that should feel familiar if you value durability over refinement.

Toyota also points to practical ownership advantages, including a 3-piece bumper design that can be less costly to replace than some competitors’ setups. Even so, used buyers should still watch for repair-cost exposure and inspect carefully for signs of oil leaks or other expensive maintenance issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Tundra?

At 56.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing or hard work. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear, and any evidence of costly repairs or leaks. If you’re comparing multiple listings, the cleanest example is often worth paying a little more for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tundra’s standard equipment includes heated mirrors and wipers, USB ports, and an auxiliary jack, while the SR5 adds fog lights, HD and satellite radio, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. The Limited adds automatic headlights, dual-zone climate controls, a power-sliding rear window, and the navigation system.
• Powertrain: The truck uses a 381-hp 5.7-liter V8 with 401 lb-ft of torque, a 6-speed automatic, and four-wheel drive in the tested configuration. It is capable, but the trade-off is poor fuel economy.
• Safety package: Standard safety features include traction and stability control, trailer brake and sway control, and eight airbags. Available features include a rear camera, front and rear parking sonar, and a blind-spot monitor with cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The upgraded Entune system includes a 7-inch screen, real-time traffic and weather, and standard USB ports plus an auxiliary jack. The SR5 adds HD and satellite radio, and the Limited adds navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The tested setup returns 13 mpg city, 17 mpg highway, and 15 mpg combined.

Which 2016 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2016 Toyota Tundra is offered in 3 trim levels: SR5, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the trim to start with if you want the best balance of equipment and value. It adds fog lights, HD and satellite radio, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror over the standard truck.
• Limited: This is the better pick if you want more everyday comfort and convenience. You get automatic headlights, dual-zone climate controls, a power-sliding rear window, and navigation, which makes it the most well-rounded choice for many shoppers.
• Platinum: This is the most upscale version, and it suits you if you want the most comfort and the most available tech. The tested Platinum truck included a spacious CrewMax cabin, a 5.5-foot bed, and the 5.7-liter V8.

The safety package includes available rear camera, parking sonar, and blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, but several safety items were optional rather than standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota Tundra?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings closely and move quickly on the right truck.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,327 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.78% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,751, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Toyota Tundra's resale value?

The current average of $25,139 sits slightly below last year's $25,594.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also suggests the truck has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation. For a future seller, that can be a mixed picture: you may not see rapid appreciation, but the current market is not signaling a sharp drop either.

The Tundra’s reputation for strong owner satisfaction and resale value should help support demand when you eventually sell. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Toyota Tundra safe?

The Toyota Tundra earns an overall four-star rating from NHTSA, and the CrewMax specifically rated only three stars in frontal impacts and rollovers.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The Tundra includes eight airbags, traction and stability control, trailer brake and sway control, and available rear camera, front and rear parking sonar, and blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert. The IIHS gave it its highest rating of Good in all tested segments, though several areas were left out of testing at this point.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.78% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 brings an upgraded Entune system, a larger gas tank, and an integrated brake controller on upper trims.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $23,663, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $25,139 average.
• It stands out most in TRD Pro trim with special suspension upgrades and distinctive detailing.

The bottom line: Choose the 2016 if you want the newer tech updates and a truck that still has strong owner appeal. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2015 can make sense, especially if you find a well-kept example with the TRD Pro setup.
