First off, the waffles color (a beautiful, unique shade) really makes this truck stand out. It turns heads everywhere I go. The leather interior gives it a premium feel, and the sunroof adds an open, airy vibe, especially on sunny drives. This truck is packed with features—from the tech to the comfort, it has everything you could want. Whether it’s advanced infotainment, driver assists, or the luxury finishes, it doesn’t miss. The engine is powerful and responsive, making highway merges and towing feel effortless.

Great value for the vehicle. High mileage but that is not an issue like it used to be.

The truck spent the first 5 years in Michigan. There was new undercoating over the entire bottom of vehicle. In the cracks of the leaf springs and other crevices I could see crusty rust. Didn’t even take it for a drive.

Yes — the 4.62/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.5/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise the comfort, power, smooth ride, and spacious interior. The turbo V6 and broad feature set also come up often as reasons the truck feels versatile for both work and everyday use.
That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a full-size pickup that blends luxury touches with real capability, especially if you want a truck that can handle daily driving, towing, and family duty. With 28.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Ford F-150 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a truck people feel good about living with over time, with recurring praise for dependable power, comfort, and a trouble-free ownership experience.
The expert drive notes reinforce that impression by describing the truck as confident, composed, and easy to trust in real-world driving. Ford also says the F-150 rates better than average for reliability.
If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is age-related wear, especially on higher-mileage trucks that may have seen hard work or heavy towing.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford F-150?
At 65.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has towing equipment, aftermarket accessories, or signs of hard use. Pay close attention to body condition, interior wear, and how the truck drives over rough pavement and under braking.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base XL is the most stripped-down choice, while higher trims add more comfort and upscale materials. The Limited stands out with caramel-colored leather, eucalyptus wood accents, and a more luxury-focused cabin.
- Powertrain: The twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 delivers 365 horsepower, 420 lb-ft of torque, and an 11,800-pound towing capacity. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic and returns an EPA-estimated 17 mpg combined.
- Safety package: Ford offers adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, plus blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and a lane-keeping system. Some driver-assistance features are available rather than standard.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 brings a capacitive touchscreen, swipe capability, improved voice recognition, Siri compatibility, and Wi-Fi software updates. Navigation is optional, and Apple CarPlay launch behavior may be inconsistent.
- Fuel efficiency: The truck is rated at 17 mpg combined, and the test loop returned 16.7 mpg.
Which 2016 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?
The 2016 Ford F-150 is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: XL is the value play, but it lacks the upscale materials and luxury feel that define the higher trims.
- Sweet-spot trim: XLT is the most balanced choice if you want more everyday comfort and features without jumping to luxury pricing.
- Premium/top trim: Limited is the standout if you want the most upscale cabin, with caramel-colored leather, eucalyptus wood, and a near-luxury presentation.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford F-150?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 6,388 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.62% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 65.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,919.23, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Ford F-150's resale value?
The current average of $19,145 sits slightly below last year's $20,502.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim appeal rather than broad market momentum.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Ford F-150 safe?
The Ford F-150 earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a 4-star rollover resistance rating. The IIHS calls it a Top Safety Pick.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford includes 911 Assist through Sync, which can automatically contact emergency responders if the airbags deploy and your paired device is in the vehicle. Available driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and a lane-keeping system.
One caveat: brake support is not automatic emergency braking, and the lane-keeping and forward-collision systems can issue false warnings in some situations.
Should I buy a 2016 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.62% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2016 adds the Limited trim, Sync 3, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $17,969, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $19,145 average.
- It emphasizes lightweight aluminum construction and broad configurability.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $22,072, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $19,145 average.
- It adds the return of the Raptor and expands the performance appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, features, and broad market availability, the 2016 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can save you money, while the 2017 makes sense if you want to pay more for the newer performance story and added appeal.
