Is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD a good car?

Generally — the 4.4/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction for this model year. Owners consistently praise its towing and hauling capability, heavy-duty performance, and overall build quality, and many also like the features it offers. For your needs, that makes it a strong fit if you want a capable used heavy-duty truck with useful tech and a comfortable, functional cabin. Is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many buyers, with praise centered on the truck’s heavy-duty performance and build quality. Some shoppers mention minor cosmetic issues and wear on used examples, so condition matters more than mileage alone. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is buying a truck that has been worked hard without proper maintenance or inspection.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean trucks from those with accident records. Then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck was used for towing, hauling, or job-site duty. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear, and how well the truck has been maintained, since heavy-duty use can accelerate problems that are not obvious at first glance.

What is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $28,727 sits slightly below last year's $29,079.

That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more on condition, maintenance history, and how well the truck presents than on broad market momentum alone. Because this model year still has strong owner satisfaction, demand should remain reasonably steady if your truck is clean and well cared for.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.21% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $30,252, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $28,727 average.
• It adds an all-new diesel engine and work-focused features for job-site use.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want a better value and strong owner satisfaction without stretching your budget. If you are willing to pay more for a newer truck with a more work-focused setup, the 2017 is the better secondary path.
