Is the 2016 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 4.75/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the performance, luxurious interior, and feature content, and many say the driving experience feels sporty and hard to beat. The X5’s roomy cabin, generous cargo space, and practical luxury-SUV layout make it appealing if you want something that feels both upscale and useful. Is the 2016 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on the powertrain, comfort, and overall ownership experience. That said, this is still an older luxury SUV, so the safest used example is one with a clear maintenance record and evidence of careful long-term ownership. For you, that means reliability is best approached by shopping condition first and assuming upkeep matters more than mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 BMW X5?

At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage or heavily optioned vehicles where repair costs can add up quickly. Focus your condition check on maintenance records, signs of past bodywork, and whether the cabin and mechanical systems show the kind of care you’d expect from a premium SUV.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 BMW X5?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,269 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.62% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,734, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $13,734 sits slightly below last year's $15,365.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now but may limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and maintain it well, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value when it’s time to move on. Luxury SUVs with strong owner satisfaction tend to stay desirable, especially when they’re clean, well documented, and properly maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,569, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,734 average.
• It emphasizes BMW’s signature driving feel and SUV practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping opportunity, the 2016 is the stronger primary choice because it combines a lower current price, solid owner satisfaction, and a healthy number of listings. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one with a strong maintenance history and clean condition.
