CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Toyota Venza
overall

Summary
With 216 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,130.00, 30.1% of 2014 Toyota Venzas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Toyota Venza 4.6 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.17 / 10.
52.8% of 2014 Venza models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Venza stands out for bringing more style and flair than most of Toyota’s other vehicles, which gives it a more distinctive presence than many crossover SUVs. It is also described as roomy, comfortable, safe, and stylish, making it an appealing choice for buyers who want a practical vehicle that does not feel plain.
That appeal comes with a few tradeoffs. The 2014 Venza lacks modern safety technologies, and its cabin is described as inexpensively trimmed. Even so, the overall impression is that it represents money well spent, especially for shoppers who value comfort and space. The review also specifically recommends upgrading to the optional V6 engine, suggesting that it is the version most worth seeking out.

Would buy again. - Our Venza was purchased on first sight. Our family unanimously loved the styling and practical, comfortable dimensions.(and rich color) It is the vehicle of choice for long trips or carrying bulky items. Toyota quality is evident in fit, finish, operation, dealer service, actually everything. This is our second Venza, our first, an '09 had a problem with the AWD which was resolved, although it made odd noises after the repair that reapperared periodically. Acceleration is brisk with the V6, but the 4 is adequate. The mileage is close, so we picked the reserve power the V6 provides. The 4 requires synthetic oil be warned. Handling is secure for a bulky vehicle, with very short stops with the 4 antilock disc brakes and low profile tires. The 20" alloy wheels give the Venza an aggressive look we like, just watch those curbs or the wheels will rash easily. The cabin is quiet and chock full of conveniences like dual climate control, auto dimming xenon headlamps, navigation with rear camera, bluetooth cell linking, heated seats, a huge console, and remote power tailgate. New for the limited, electrically folding mirrors and auto seat and steering make entry and exits easier. With all the safety features, great crash rating, airbags front and side, dual sunroofs, more legroom in back than front, reclining rear seats, this is a very passenger friendly vehicle. Now that the bugs have been worked out, we can recommend the Venza, and would purchase it again.

The earlier design of the Toyota Venza is a roomy, elegant vehicle. The Limited version has everything that you could want in your car. This is a sturdy, recognizable crossover that has loads of room for your luggage and drives quietly for long trips. Highly recommend it!

Has all the bells and whistles of top-of-the-line vehicles, plus Toyota ‘s legendary reputation to let you know it’s a quality performer. Smooth, graceful lines similar to the Lexus RX 350.

Drivers consistently praise its reliability, spaciousness, comfortable ride, and stylish design. The review summary also highlights its rich features and long-trip comfort, which fits a vehicle aimed at buyers who want practicality without giving up a polished feel.
With the Venza described as roomy, comfortable, safe, and stylish, it makes the most sense if you want a practical crossover that still feels distinctive. 29.8% of listings are rated as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Toyota Venza reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Drivers also describe it as reliable, and the review summary emphasizes its dependable, trouble-free appeal for everyday use and road trips.
The expert review says Toyota’s free maintenance and roadside assistance cover the first two years or 25,000 miles of ownership. It also notes that Toyota’s own dependability reputation is strong, which supports the case for long-term ownership.
For used buyers, the main risk is less about basic durability and more about finding a well-kept example with the right maintenance history and no hidden wear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Venza?
At 49.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, wheel and tire wear, and signs of past repairs. Because this model is often bought for comfort and family use, you should also pay close attention to interior condition and how well the cabin has held up.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LE is the simplest version, while the XLE adds leather, Smart Key passive entry, navigation, HD Radio, iTunes song-tagging capability, a reversing camera, a power tailgate, heated front seats, and memory settings. The Limited adds a panoramic glass sunroof, a larger 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, a premium JBL audio system, parking-assist sensors, automatic HID headlights, LED running lights, and larger 20-inch wheels.
- Powertrain: The standard engine is a 181-hp, 2.7-liter 4-cylinder, and a more powerful 268-hp 3.5-liter V6 is available on LE and XLE and standard on Limited. The V6 brings much stronger acceleration with only a small fuel-economy penalty.
- Safety package: The Venza includes a driver’s knee airbag and blind-spot side-mirror designs. A reversing camera is optional on LE and standard on XLE and Limited, while the Limited also adds front and rear parking-assist sensors. It does not offer blind-spot information, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, or Safety Connect.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen. Smartphone pairing is straightforward, navigation is available, and the Limited upgrades to a larger 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen. Wireless phone integration and over-the-air updates are not mentioned.
- Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive 4-cylinder returned 25.7 mpg in mixed highway use and is rated at 26 mpg on the highway. The V6 is also rated at 26 mpg on the highway, which makes the upgrade easier to justify than you might expect.
Which 2014 Toyota Venza trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Venza is offered in 3 trim levels: LE, XLE, Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LE is the most basic version, and it lacks the richer equipment found higher up the range. You give up features like leather, Smart Key passive entry, navigation, the reversing camera, heated front seats, and the more upscale cabin touches.
- Sweet-spot trim: The XLE is the best value if you want the biggest jump in comfort and convenience without going all the way to the top. It adds leather, Smart Key passive entry, navigation, HD Radio, iTunes song-tagging capability, a reversing camera, a power tailgate, heated front seats, and memory settings.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the most fully equipped choice, with the panoramic glass sunroof, larger 7-inch touchscreen, premium JBL audio system, parking-assist sensors, automatic HID headlights, LED running lights, larger 20-inch wheels, and a standard V6 engine.
The safety package is thin across the range, so even the better-equipped trims do not solve the Venza’s lack of modern driver-assistance technology.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Venza?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 218 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.31% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 49.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,628.83, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Venza's resale value?
The current average of $12,091 sits slightly below last year's $12,635.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current trend implies you may not see rapid appreciation, so condition and trim choice will matter a lot when it comes time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Venza safe?
The Venza earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, and IIHS says it performs at a Good level in its assessments.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
The Venza comes standard with a driver’s knee airbag and blind-spot side-mirror designs. A reversing camera is optional on the LE and standard on the XLE and Limited, while the Limited also adds front and rear parking-assist sensors.
The main caveat is that the Venza lacks modern crash-prevention technology such as blind-spot information, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and Safety Connect. IIHS also has not evaluated its small-overlap frontal-impact crash protection.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Venza or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 49.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.31% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert review says it is roomy, comfortable, safe, and stylish, but also notes that it lacks modern safety technologies and has an inexpensively trimmed cabin.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $13,908, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $12,091 average.
- It adds a stronger value pitch, but still lacks the convenience, infotainment, and safety features many buyers expect.
The bottom line: If you want the better-priced option, the 2014 is the smarter buy because it already reflects a softer market and strong owner satisfaction. If you are willing to spend more for a slightly newer example, the 2015 may appeal, but the core tradeoffs remain similar.
