What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Tundra?

At 55.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, frame, and repair quality. Because this truck is often used for work, condition matters as much as mileage, so pay close attention to signs of hard use, wear, and any evidence of poor repairs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SR is the work-truck choice with a dark plastic grille, front bumper, and basic steel wheels, while the SR5 adds chrome accents, fog lights, 18-inch wheels, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The Limited brings leather heated seats, navigation, and a power sliding rear window, and the Platinum adds LED daytime running lights, a power sunroof, stitched interior cladding, and JBL audio.
• Powertrain: You can get a 270-hp 4.0-liter V6, a 310-hp 4.6-liter V8, or a 381-hp 5.7-liter V8 with 401 pound-feet of torque. The larger V8 is the strongest choice, while the V6 rear-wheel-drive setup is the best fuel-economy option.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a backup camera, front and side impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and trailer sway control. Optional equipment includes proximity parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The SR5 gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Toyota’s Entune and satellite radio, while higher trims add Entune features such as weather, traffic, Pandora streaming, BING web searches, and OpenTable reservations.
• Fuel efficiency: The 5.7-liter V8 is rated at 13 mpg city and 17 highway, with an estimated 15 mpg combined. The V6 rear-wheel-drive version gets 16 mpg city and 20 highway, while the 4.6-liter V8 rear-wheel-drive version gets 15 city and 19 highway.

Which 2014 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2014 Toyota Tundra is offered in 4 trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the work-truck trim, and it makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and do not need much beyond the basics. It is the most stripped-down choice, so it suits buyers who care more about utility than comfort or convenience.
• SR5: This is the best-value trim because it adds the most useful everyday upgrades, including chrome accents, fog lights, 18-inch wheels, and the 7-inch touchscreen with Entune and satellite radio. If you want a more livable Tundra without jumping too far up in price, this is the one to target.
• Limited: This trim is the step up if you want a more upscale cabin, with leather heated seats, navigation, and a power sliding rear window. It fits you best if you want a truck that feels more comfortable for daily use and longer trips.
• Platinum: This is the most fully equipped version, adding LED daytime running lights, a power sunroof, stitched interior cladding, and JBL premium audio. Choose it if you want the most features and the most premium feel.

The safety setup is strong across the lineup, with a standard backup camera and available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Tundra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 859 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.50% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 55.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,421, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Toyota Tundra's resale value?

The current average of $22,523 sits slightly above last year's $22,191.

That upward move suggests the truck has held value reasonably well, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A modest price increase also signals that demand has stayed steady rather than weakening sharply.

Because the market is still showing a meaningful share of good or great deals, buyers remain price-aware, so condition and history will matter a lot when you eventually list yours. Trucks with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Toyota Tundra safe?

The 2014 Toyota Tundra earns four-star ratings in all NHTSA crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a backup camera, front and side impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and trailer sway control. Optional safety equipment includes proximity parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The standard backup camera is a meaningful advantage for low-speed maneuvering, and the available driver-assistance features add useful coverage for parking and lane-change situations.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.50% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It blends tough truck capability with enough technology for work and weekend use.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $23,742, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $22,523 average.
• TRD Pro adds special suspension upgrades and distinctive styling.

The 2014 is the better pick if you want the stronger value proposition and a truck that already has broad owner approval. If you are willing to spend more for a more distinctive setup, the 2015 is worth a look, especially if TRD Pro appeal matters to you.
