What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Tundra?

At 55.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing or work. Focus on body condition, signs of wear in the cabin, and evidence that the truck has been maintained consistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SR is the work-truck choice with a dark plastic grille, front bumper, and basic steel wheels. SR5 adds chrome bumper endcaps, chrome grille accents, fog lights, 18-inch 5-spoke wheels, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Entune and satellite radio. Limited adds a unique grille insert, 20-inch chrome wheels, chrome mirrors and door handles, leather heated seats, navigation, and a power sliding rear window. Platinum adds LED daytime running lights, a power sunroof, unique leather stitched interior cladding, and a JBL premium audio system.
• Powertrain: You get a 270-hp 4.0-liter V6 on the base SR, a 4.6-liter V8 with 310 horsepower on SR5, and a 5.7-liter V8 with 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque on Limited and Platinum. The V6 is the most efficient choice, while the larger V8 is the strongest for towing and heavy-duty use.
• Safety package: The Tundra includes a standard backup camera, front and side impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and trailer sway control. Optional equipment includes proximity parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Higher trims use Toyota’s Entune system, and the Platinum’s setup adds apps, weather and traffic info, Pandora streaming, BING web searches, restaurant reservations through OpenTable, and smartphone-based updates for sports, stocks, fuel prices, and weather.
• Fuel efficiency: The 5.7-liter V8 is rated at 13 mpg city, 17 highway, and 15 mpg combined, while the V6 rear-wheel-drive model gets 16 mpg city and 20 highway. The 4.6-liter V8 rear-wheel-drive model gets 15 mpg city and 19 highway, and the 4WD version gets 1 mpg less in each type of driving.

Which 2014 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2014 Toyota Tundra is offered in 4 trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the work-truck trim, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest entry point and can live without the nicer convenience and appearance upgrades.
• SR5: This is the best-value trim because it adds the most useful everyday upgrades, including fog lights, 18-inch wheels, and the 7-inch touchscreen with Entune and satellite radio.
• Limited: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin, with leather heated seats, navigation, chrome exterior details, and a power sliding rear window.
• Platinum: This is the most feature-rich version, adding LED daytime running lights, a power sunroof, stitched leather trim, and JBL audio for buyers who want the most premium Tundra experience.

The safety package centers on a standard backup camera, with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert available on higher-spec versions.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 pairs a standard backup camera with strong work-truck credibility and a well-regarded blend of toughness and technology.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $23,964, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $22,354 average.
• It adds TRD Pro flavor with suspension upgrades and distinctive styling.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because pricing is stable and inventory is decent. If you are willing to pay more for a more distinctive special-edition feel, the 2015 is the better secondary path.
