Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Sienna stands out as a practical minivan that does its job well, even if it is not the best in its class. It is aimed at buyers who value utility and functionality, which makes it a sensible choice for families who need space and everyday usefulness more than style or excitement.
Its most distinctive feature in the provided test-drive data is the Limited’s second-row lounge-style captain’s chairs, which turn the cabin into a first-class experience for passengers by offering serious stretch-your-legs space. That emphasis on passenger comfort is a strong appeal for buyers who spend a lot of time carrying people rather than cargo.

Reviewed a 2014 Toyota Sienna on May 21, 2022
This minivan checks in most of the features a family can look for, it is roomy, has the most second row seats in class, huge cargo space even with the 3rd row seat up, the engine has enough power to haul the whole family, cargo and even tow 3500 lbs, it looks good outside, and the engine and transmission are pretty reliable mainly because of it’s timing chain design, pretty much bulletproof with adequate maintenance, the only drawbacks are it’s 2nd row seats not being stowaway ones, you will have to remove them to make more space if needed but that’s if you need a ton of space for cargo, they are also heavy and not that easy to remove. The other drawback is the interior front console materials, too much plastic which also looks cheap but surprisingly it takes the use and abuse a family can throw at it. The 2018 and up models have better materials but again, it’s matter of looks. I rather pick the Sienna over the Odyssey because of the Honda’s timing belt engine design, you have to do a major work every 75k miles which is gonna set you some $1500 back, not the Sienna, the Odyssey has a visually better front console, seats and overal interior craftsmanship, looks fancier but ultimately I believe the Sienna will go the distance with more authority, also remember the Sienna has more horse power and that’s also a plus when driving a heavy vehicle full of family people and cargo, thats why I rather chose the Sienna. There are other options like the Dodge Grand Caravan which has stowaway 2nd row seats, and a beefy engine but reliability is not on par with Toyota off course about $5k less on price, also consider the Kia Sedona, great alternative, very spacious and great design, this one and the Sienna have available ottoman 2nd row seats, rear entertainment system. All models getting better with the new technology.

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 946 listings available, which gives you a workable pool to compare prices and equipment. If you find a listing below $12,490, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — 4.67/5 from users, and 6.67/10 from expert testing. The Sienna is aimed at buyers who value utility and functionality, and the overview makes clear that it’s a sensible choice for families who need space and everyday usefulness more than style or excitement.
The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.
That lines up with the expert take: it’s a practical minivan that does its job well, with standout passenger comfort in the Limited’s second-row lounge-style captain’s chairs. 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests you can still find value if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The expert materials also point to favorable dependability, noting that reliability predictions are better than average and that the Sienna earned a dependability award in J.D. Power’s Vehicle Dependability Study.
The performance notes suggest the powertrain is responsive and strong for everyday driving, while the cost-effectiveness notes add that Toyota includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles of ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the van has been maintained well enough to avoid wear-related issues from prior use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Sienna?
At 54.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on body condition, braking feel, and signs of heavy family use, since this model is often bought for daily utility and can accumulate a lot of real-world wear. If you’re considering a higher-trim example, make sure the added equipment actually works as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base model leaves out some of the convenience and comfort equipment found higher up the range, while the LE adds power sliding side doors, rear bumper protection, upgraded fabric, triple-zone climate control, Bluetooth, satellite radio, a USB port, upgraded speakers, and a reversing camera. The Limited adds the most upscale cabin treatment, Smart Key passive entry with push-button start, a premium audio system, 2-tone leather seats, memory settings, and second-row lounge-style captain’s chairs.
- Powertrain: Every version uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 266 hp and 245 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. The engine feels strong in everyday driving, and all-wheel drive is available.
- Safety package: The Limited includes Blind-Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Safety Connect with Automatic Collision Notification, while Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and a Pre-Collision System are part of the available advanced package. Lower trims miss some of those features.
- Infotainment: The Limited’s infotainment setup looks dated in screen size and resolution, but it uses physical knobs and buttons. Bluetooth can be fussy, and the available rear entertainment setup includes a 16.4-inch screen.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA estimate is 21 mpg combined, and the test vehicle returned 19.3 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2014 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Sienna is offered in 4 trim levels: L, LE, SE, XLE.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The L is the most stripped-down choice, and the available information points to the LE as the better starting point because it adds major everyday conveniences like power sliding doors, a reversing camera, Bluetooth, and climate upgrades.
- Sweet-spot trim: The LE looks like the best value because it adds the most useful family-friendly equipment without jumping all the way to the pricier luxury trims.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the most appealing if you want the richest cabin, with leather, memory settings, Smart Key access, premium audio, and second-row lounge-style captain’s chairs.
The Limited also gets Blind-Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, which are important safety upgrades to look for if you want the most complete package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Sienna?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.
- Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 946 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 54.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,490, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $13,269 sits slightly below last year's $13,328.
That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is usually helpful if you’re thinking about future resale. A steady price pattern can make it easier to estimate what your van may be worth later, especially if you keep mileage and condition in check. Strong equipment and clean history should matter more than chasing short-term price swings.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna safe?
Except for a 3-star crash protection rating for the front-seat passenger in a frontal-impact crash, as assigned by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2014 Sienna boasts impressive crash-test ratings.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The available safety equipment is strong, especially on higher trims: Blind-Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, front and rear parking sensors, a panoramic reversing camera, rain-sensing wipers, automatic high-beam headlights, Safety Connect with Automatic Collision Notification, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and a Pre-Collision System that tightens the seat belts and prepares the brakes for maximum stopping power. The main caveat is that Toyota reserves some of the best safety tech for the most expensive versions, and the lack of Lane-Departure Warning is a notable omission.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It offers practical family space and a Limited trim with lounge-style second-row seating.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $15,351, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $13,269 average.
- It brings broader upgrades and a stronger safety focus.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the easier buy because pricing is stable and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer version with broader improvements, the 2015 is the stronger upgrade path; price-sensitive buyers should stay focused on clean, well-equipped 2014 listings.
