CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Toyota Prius c
overall

Summary
With 228 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,243, 31.6% of 2014 Toyota Prius cs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Toyota Prius c 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
56.1% of 2014 Prius c models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Prius c stands out as the smaller, more city-friendly way to get into the Prius family. It is described as a subcompact hybrid based on the same platform as the Toyota Yaris, but with the Prius drivetrain and more attractive, fun packaging. Toyota also positioned it as a more affordable route into the Prius lineup, and the “C” in its name is said to stand for “City,” which fits its urban focus.
That positioning makes the Prius c appealing to buyers who want hybrid efficiency in a compact, easy-to-live-with package rather than a larger Prius variant. The tradeoff is that its appeal is tied closely to value and city use, so it is best understood as a practical, budget-conscious choice within the Prius family rather than a broadly luxurious or spacious one.

Great little commuter car. It gets amazing mpg, easy to drive and park. The hatchback has decent cargo space for groceries etc. In 2 years has been a very reliable vehicle with just routine maintenance needed.

Is the 2014 Toyota Prius c a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.33/10. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
The Prius c is positioned as the smaller, more city-friendly way into the Prius family, and that mission comes through clearly in the overview. It is meant for you if you want hybrid efficiency in a compact, urban-friendly shape rather than maximum space or upscale feel. The expert review also frames it as a more affordable alternative within the Prius lineup, which reinforces its value-focused role.
The market shows 31.7% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Toyota Prius c reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview presents it as a straightforward hybrid built for city use, and the expert review emphasizes its hybrid system as a practical way to move you around while delivering the advertised mileage. The performance write-up also highlights regenerative braking and the hybrid drivetrain’s efficiency-focused design, which supports the idea that this car is engineered around durability-minded everyday use rather than complexity for its own sake. The cost-effectiveness discussion adds that the Prius c is best suited to buyers who can take advantage of its efficiency, especially in city driving.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the savings only really make sense if the car’s condition and usage history are solid, so you should be especially careful about maintenance records and overall wear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Prius c?
At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, glass, and alignment so you can spot signs of prior damage or poor repairs. Because this is a small hatchback, you should also pay attention to visibility-related wear points and make sure the car’s condition matches the seller’s description. Focus on how the car drives in stop-and-go traffic, since that is where this hybrid is meant to shine.

- Trim level: The base One trim starts with Bluetooth hands-free calling, a fold-down rear seat, a USB audio port and remote keyless entry, while the Two adds a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, two-tone seat fabric and a center-console armrest with a storage compartment. The Three adds a touchscreen navigation system, Toyota’s touch-tracer display and push-button start, and the Four adds fog lights, SofTex heated front seats and 15-inch alloy wheels.
- Powertrain: The Prius c uses Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive with a 1.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, a high-output electric motor and a nickel-metal hydride battery. It is rated at 99 horsepower overall and returns 53 mpg city/46 highway, with combined fuel economy listed at 50 mpg under ideal driving.
- Safety package: Nine airbags are standard, including front and side impact airbags, a driver's knee airbag, and front and rear side curtain airbags. The car scored 4 out of 5 stars in overall government safety testing. A backup camera is not standard.
- Infotainment: The touchscreen navigation system uses a 6.1-inch screen and includes apps like Pandora, iHeartRadio, weather reports and web searches through Bing. The test model also has advanced voice recognition.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA lists an average annual fuel cost of $1,050, and the review says the Prius c achieves 53 mpg city/46 highway with 50 mpg combined under ideal conditions.
Which 2014 Toyota Prius c trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Prius c is offered in 4 trim levels: One, Two, Three, Four.
Here's the short version:
- One: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Prius c experience with Bluetooth hands-free calling, a fold-down rear seat, a USB audio port and remote keyless entry. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and do not need extra convenience features.
- Two: This trim adds a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, two-tone seat fabric and a center-console armrest with a storage compartment. It is the best-value choice if you want a more usable cabin without jumping too far up the price ladder.
- Three: This is the tech-focused pick, adding a touchscreen navigation system, Toyota’s touch-tracer display and push-button start. You should choose it if infotainment and convenience matter more to you than keeping the purchase as basic as possible.
- Four: This is the most equipped version, with fog lights, SofTex heated front seats and 15-inch alloy wheels. It is the right choice if you want the most comfort and appearance upgrades available in the lineup.
Nine airbags are standard across the lineup, but the lack of a standard backup camera is a safety gap you should keep in mind.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Prius c?

- Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 218 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $9,415.63, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Prius c's resale value?
The current average of $9,943 sits slightly above last year's $9,915.
That small increase suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to resell later. A steady price trend can make it easier to estimate your future trade-in or private-sale value because the model is not showing sharp swings. For you, that means the Prius c looks more like a predictable ownership choice than a speculative one.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Prius c safe?
It earns four-star ratings in overall government safety testing.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Nine airbags are standard, including front and side impact airbags, a driver's knee airbag, and front and rear side curtain airbags. The safety write-up also notes a visibility drawback: the car’s upright rear and large C-pillars can create blind spots for low objects behind it, and a backup camera is not standard. That is the main caveat you should factor into your buying decision.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Prius c or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert review highlights the Prius c as a more city-friendly, more affordable way into the Prius family, with strong technology and a clear urban mission.
The bottom line: If you want a compact hybrid that is easy to understand, efficient in city use, and backed by steady pricing, the 2014 Prius c is the cleaner path. If you are especially price-sensitive, you should still compare individual listings closely, because the market includes enough inventory to reward careful shopping and condition checks.
