Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Prius c stands out as the smallest and most city-friendly way to get into the Prius family. It is a subcompact hybrid based on the same platform as the Toyota Yaris, but it adds the Prius name and a more attractive, fun packaging that helps it feel like more than just an economy car. Toyota also positioned it as a more affordable entry point to the Prius lineup, which makes its appeal easy to understand for buyers who want hybrid efficiency in a compact, urban-friendly package.
That focus on value and maneuverability is the Prius c’s main strength. The source also notes a price of $19,080, which helps frame it as a relatively accessible hybrid option. At the same time, the comparison to the Yaris suggests that shoppers are paying a premium for the Prius badge and hybrid drivetrain, so its appeal depends on how much those traits matter to the buyer.

Great little commuter car. It gets amazing mpg, easy to drive and park. The hatchback has decent cargo space for groceries etc. In 2 years has been a very reliable vehicle with just routine maintenance needed.

How much does the 2014 Toyota Prius c cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,376 |
| Year-Round Low | $9,416 |
| Year-Round High | $10,463 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $9,588 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +8.22% |
Prices are up 8.22% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 202 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2014 Toyota Prius c a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Toyota Prius c earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
The Prius c is framed as the smallest and most city-friendly way into the Prius family, and its appeal is built around maneuverability, hybrid efficiency, and an accessible entry point to Prius ownership. The overview also positions it as a more affordable option in the lineup, which matters if you want hybrid practicality without moving up to a larger Prius model.
31.2% of listings are marked as good or great deals, so you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Toyota Prius c reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview presents the Prius c as a value-focused hybrid with a clear city-driving mission, and the expert notes reinforce that it is built around Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive. That setup uses a 1.5-liter engine, an electric motor, and regenerative braking, which supports the car’s efficiency-first character.
The cost-effectiveness discussion also points to low annual fuel spending, which can help keep ownership costs manageable if you drive mostly in town. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that hybrid-specific repairs can be more expensive than on a conventional subcompact, so condition and maintenance history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Prius c?
At 56.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, glass, and alignment clues that can reveal past damage. Because this car is small and city-oriented, pay close attention to visibility-related wear and any signs that the rear of the car has been bumped or repaired. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on overall condition, not just mileage.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base One trim includes Bluetooth hands-free calling, a fold-down rear seat, a USB audio port, and remote keyless entry, while the Two adds a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, two-tone seat fabric, and a center-console armrest with storage. The Three adds a touchscreen navigation system, touch-tracer display, and push-button start, and the Four adds fog lights, SofTex heated front seats, and 15-inch alloy wheels.
- Powertrain: The Prius c uses Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive with a 1.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, a high-output electric motor, and regenerative braking. Output is rated at 99 horsepower, and the car is described as especially efficient in stop-and-go driving.
- Safety package: Nine airbags are standard, including front and side impact airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, and front and rear side curtain airbags. The safety content also notes a lack of a backup camera and mentions sight-line limitations from the upright rear and large C-pillars.
- Infotainment: The touchscreen navigation system uses a 6.1-inch screen and includes apps such as Pandora, iHeartRadio, weather reports, and Bing web searches. It also includes advanced voice recognition.
- Fuel efficiency: The Prius c achieves 53 mpg city/46 highway, with EPA combined fuel economy listed at 50 mpg. The cost-effectiveness section also cites an average annual fuel cost of $1,050.
Which 2014 Toyota Prius c trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Prius c is offered in 4 trim levels: One, Two, Three, Four.
Here's the short version:
- One: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Prius c formula with Bluetooth hands-free calling, a fold-down rear seat, a USB audio port, and remote keyless entry. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
- Two: This adds a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, two-tone seat fabric, and a center-console armrest with storage. It is the best-value trim if you want a little more everyday convenience without moving too far up the price ladder.
- Three: This is the tech-focused choice, adding a touchscreen navigation system, touch-tracer display, and push-button start. It suits you if infotainment matters more than comfort upgrades.
- Four: This is the most equipped version, adding fog lights, SofTex heated front seats, and 15-inch alloy wheels. Choose it if you want the most comfort and appearance upgrades in the lineup.
Nine airbags are standard across the Prius c lineup, which is a useful safety baseline regardless of trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Prius c?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 202 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 8.22% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 56.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $9,416, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Prius c's resale value?
The current average of $10,376 sits slightly above last year's $9,588.
That upward move suggests the market has been willing to pay a bit more for this model year, which can help support resale if you buy well and keep the car in good condition. The year-round range is fairly tight, so pricing discipline matters if you plan to sell later. A clean history and strong maintenance record should help you stand out when it is time to list.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Prius c safe?
The 2014 Toyota Prius c earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Nine airbags are standard, including front and side impact airbags, a driver's knee airbag, and front and rear side curtain airbags. The safety writeup also flags limited rear visibility and the lack of a backup camera as drawbacks, so you should pay attention to parking visibility and rearward awareness when you test-drive one.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Prius c or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 8.22% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert summary emphasizes the Prius c as a smaller, city-friendly, more affordable entry into the Prius family.
The bottom line: The 2014 Prius c makes the most sense if you want a compact hybrid that is easy to park, efficient around town, and backed by strong owner satisfaction. If you are shopping primarily on price, you should focus on the cleanest examples and compare them carefully against other efficient subcompacts, because the Prius badge and hybrid hardware can carry a premium.
