There are 1,263 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare by trim, mileage, and condition.

Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Toyota Highlander earns a 4.78/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and value for money, and they also like the spacious interior and useful features. That lines up well with the Highlander’s family-focused mission: it is meant to handle school runs, errands, and weekend trips without feeling plain or stripped down.

The model’s appeal is strongest if you want a practical crossover that still feels a little more engaging than the usual family hauler. Even so, some shoppers may notice the tradeoffs in fuel economy and seat comfort.

33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to find a strong value if you shop carefully.

Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander reliable?

The expert review also describes it as a vehicle that is capable and competent for everyday use and weekend trips, which reinforces the sense that it is built to be counted on.

The ownership picture is helped by the Highlander’s broad usefulness and strong reputation for comfort and value. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s basic durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by family-duty mileage.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Highlander?

At 57.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then focus your inspection on signs of prior damage, uneven wear, and any repairs that may affect long-term value. Because this is a family crossover, it is also worth paying close attention to interior condition, seat comfort, and how well the cabin has held up to daily use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LE trim comes with standard seating for 8, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, a backup camera, Bluetooth hands-free calling, and plenty of storage, while the LE Plus adds three-zone climate control with rear climate toggles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and SofTex leatherette seating. The XLE adds navigation, leather seating, and a detailed color digital display, while the Limited adds 19-inch wheels, a JBL audio system, and upgraded safety tech like blind-spot monitoring.
• Powertrain: The base LE uses a 185-hp 2.7-liter inline 4-cylinder, but the 3.5-liter V6 is optional on the LE and standard on the LE Plus and above. The V6 makes 270 hp, pairs with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and is the better choice if you want stronger acceleration and more confident highway passing.
• Safety package: The Highlander comes standard with a backup camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and a full array of advanced front and side impact airbags. With the available pre-collision system, it is a 2014 Top Safety Pick Plus award winner, and available driver aids include lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen with Entune apps, including Pandora streaming radio, Yelp, and Bing. Navigation is available, but it does not get a dedicated dash button, so you access it through the app page.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 with front-wheel drive is rated at 19 mpg city/25 highway, while the 4-cylinder with front-wheel drive gets 20/25. An AWD V6 test trim was listed at 18/24.

Which 2014 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?

The 2014 Toyota Highlander is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, LE Plus, XLE, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Highlander experience with 8-passenger seating, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, a backup camera, Bluetooth, and lots of storage. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but the base 4-cylinder is the weakest powertrain choice.
• LE Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds three-zone climate control, rear climate toggles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and SofTex leatherette seating. It also gets the V6 standard, which makes the Highlander feel much more capable in daily driving.
• XLE: This trim is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale cabin, since it adds navigation, leather seating, and a detailed color digital display in the instrument panel. It is a good fit if you want more comfort and tech without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with 19-inch wheels, a JBL audio system, and upgraded safety tech like blind-spot monitoring. Choose it if you want the most content and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is strongest when the Highlander is equipped with the available pre-collision system, which unlocks the Top Safety Pick Plus recognition.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Highlander?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,263 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.81% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,944, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Toyota Highlander's resale value?

The current average of $15,516 sits slightly below last year's $15,965.

That kind of price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can be helpful if you are buying now but means a future seller may need to price competitively. The year-round range also shows that values can move meaningfully depending on condition, mileage, and trim, so a clean, well-kept example should hold up better than a rough one.

For you as a seller, the key takeaway is that this model still has broad appeal because it is practical, comfortable, and well regarded by owners. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander safe?

The 2014 Toyota Highlander earns a Top Safety Pick Plus award from IIHS when equipped with the available pre-collision system.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The Highlander comes standard with a backup camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and a full array of advanced front and side impact airbags. Available driver-assistance features include lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The main safety caveat is that the strongest recognition depends on the available pre-collision system, so you should verify that a used example has the equipment you want.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its more engaging styling and strong mix of power, technology, and family usefulness.

The bottom line: The 2014 is a good pick if you want a family crossover with strong owner satisfaction, solid safety, and a market that still offers some negotiating room. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on the cleanest, best-maintained examples and be willing to compare trims closely, since the LE Plus and XLE can offer a better ownership experience than the base model.
