The 1996 Toyota Tercel didn’t see too many changes. The standard coupe got the option of cloth seats, whereas before it only came with vinyl. Other than that, the 1996 Tercel stayed largely the same.
The 1996 Toyota Tercel came in three trim levels. The coupe was offered as a base or DX model, and the sedan was available only as a DX. All shared the same 1.5-liter, 93 horsepower four cylinder engine. Not surprisingly, the 1995 Toyota Tercel got excellent gas mileage, at about 30 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway.

We bought this car as a commuter vehicle, and have been very impressed. I'm shocked that it doesn't hold its value better, because it runs and drives just as well now as it did in 1996. It's still very reliable and gets about 39 mpg. Its only disadvantage is it's kinda loud.

very good fuel efficiency. 39mpg with half highway and half local as I am a very good driver for this manual car. very good quality, no major problem very reliable. moderate design but it lacks horsepower :-(

this car did everything i hoped it would do.low cost to operate ,looked and drove great. i looked at many other cars before i bought this one. i was in the car biz for over 26 years and know how to spot a good one.

The car is all about economics. This car is not made for performance, its pretty slow actually, but the cost of maintenance is next to zero. This doesn't have good handling or braking, but its ok. The materials made for this car are top notch, and the gas mileage its one of the bests around.
