Overview

For the 1994 model year, the LE four-door sedan was discontinued. Other than that, the Tercel saw 1994 relatively unchanged.
The 1994 Toyota Tercel came in three trim levels. The coupe was offered as a base or DX (deluxe) model, and the sedan was available only as a DX. All shared the same 1.5-liter, 82-horsepower 4-cylinder engine. Not surprisingly, the 1994 Toyota Tercel got excellent gas mileage—about 30 mpg in the city and 35 on the highway. The base trims came only with a 4-speed manual transmission, while the DX models also had the option of a 3-speed automatic.
The 1994 Toyota Tercel is beloved by its owners for its cheapness, reliability and fuel economy. Drivers of this car claim it needs very little attention other than routine maintenance, and while they admit it's not fancy or roomy, for the most part that's not what Tercel owners wanted. Some 1994 Tercel drivers do wish the car had more power, and others wish it came as a 5-speed.

This was my first car in high school. My Dad bought it brand new in 1994 and it was in our family for it's entire existence. I inherited it in 2003 as a sophomore in high school with around 170/180k miles and I drove it until I was a freshman in college and the car had 220k miles! It was a great for me and my Dad. It had great gas mileage, was very dependable, never left any of us stranded, never had to make any major repairs to it. The most serious thing that ever happened to it was one of the brake calipers seized up on it at around 150k/160k miles. If I had that many miles on me my brakes would probably seize up too :D. That really was it as far as major repairs though, my Dad called the car a sewing machine because it ran tirelessly on minimal repairs and fuel. I don't even think we ever got the A/C charged but it blew ice cold until its dying day. It was a great car that was dirt cheap to run and sometimes to this day I wish I still had it! Definitely would recommend this or any Toyota to anyone!

This car lacks in performance for sure. But makes it up in its reliability and cost of ownership. This thing is bullet proof. I can take it off roading, jump it, even through water up to the windows and yet I still get 35 mpg. Anything that could possibly go wrong with this car can be fixed in a weekend at the most.

Great basic transportation. Once of the most economical cars I have ever owned. Great on gas, cheap to repair and to own. Not a great looker nor is it a zippy car, but it works when it needs to and does everything at an adequate level.

This was the first car I ever owned. It was small, cheap, and easy to repair. This car was also pretty good on the mileage front. The only problem with this car (as with other cars of this class and year) is that it was not a quiet ride (taking it out to the highway sounded as if you had a helicopter flying over you at all times). Overall a good first car to have owned. One other problem was that due to its small build, it would get pushed around the road fairly easily with any gust of wind.
