What’s New for the 2025 Volkswagen ID.7
The Volkswagen ID.7 is all-new for the 2025 model year, joining the ID.4 crossover in the brand’s new electric lineup. The ID.7 is a big, stylish touring sedan. It features two available powertrains, both of which can be configured with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), in Pro S and Pro S Plus trim levels.
Design
Squint, and the VW ID.7 looks a lot like the Arteon, the big, elegant, low, fastback-inspired sedan that the brand should have sold a whole lot more of. Same for the sadly discontinued Kia Stinger. It’s a lovely segment of cars, the raked-roof big tourers, yet they’re a hard sell no matter how good they are. The ID.7 wears standard 19-inch wheels, which are smaller than the optional wheels on, for example, VW’s own ID.4 small crossover, but they look good here. Some trims are available with 20-inch wheels. Other features include power-folding outside mirrors and illuminated front and rear logos. Exterior colors are basic, with a palette of black, white, grey, blue, and red.
Powertrain
The ID.7 features two all-electric powertrains. Models with RWD will have 282 horsepower and 402 pound-feet of torque from a 82-kWh battery paired with an electric motor, while models with AWD will have up to 335 hp. Volkswagen will announce more details, including range, closer to the ID.7’s on-sale date. Pro S Plus trims will feature dynamic steering and adaptive damping.

Interior
The 2025 ID.7 seats five and comes standard with 12-way power-adjustable front seats with a massage feature and memory function, a heated steering wheel, tri-zone automatic climate control, and a panoramic glass roof with adjustable opacity. The cabin is available in two color palettes: dark, with black seats and white stitching, or light, with gray seats and contrast stitching.
Technology
Volkswagen hasn’t announced much about what to expect from the 2025 ID.7 in terms of technology, except for a few cryptic details. Expect a “high-tech tone” from the combination of a 15-inch infotainment display and an augmented reality head-up display, both of which come standard across the lineup. Upper trim levels are available with a 14-speaker Harman Kardon stereo system, which includes a subwoofer mounted in the trunk.
Safety
As the Volkswagen ID.7 is not yet available as of this writing, it has not yet been evaluated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Standard features will include park-distance control, park assist with memory functions, an area view camera system, and Volkswagen’s hands-on semi-automated driving system with features such as driver-initiated lane changes.

Pricing and Release Date
As of this writing, it’s unclear when Volkswagen will begin selling the ID.7 in the United States. Though it was originally projected for late 2024, the company announced in the spring that the introduction would be delayed due to a combination of market dynamics in North America and increased demand in Germany. As of this writing, VW has announced two trims for the 2025 ID.7, Pro S and Pro S Plus, though pricing will come at a later date.
