2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Pricing, Specs, and Release Date

by Chris Teague

The Highlander has long been Toyota’s option for buyers who need space but don’t want to spring for a minivan, but some people need a little more space than the venerable family hauler has to offer. For them, Toyota introduced the Grand Highlander in 2024, giving the SUV a longer wheelbase and more interior space for people and gear. The hybrid model builds on that foundation with solid low-end torque and improved fuel economy.

What’s New for the 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid

The Grand Highlander Hybrid was a new model in 2024, so we're not surprised to see it looking much the same heading into the 2025 model year.

Design

The Grand Highlander Hybrid is not a radical departure from the SUV’s roots as a friend-shaped family hauler, but Toyota’s decision to give the model a boxier, more upright front-end shape makes it look more muscular and imposing than previous models. Higher trims get tasteful applications of chrome accents on the exterior, and Toyota offers a range of wheel choices, depending on the variant.

Powertrain

Toyota offers two powertrain options for the 2025 Grand Highlander Hybrid. The base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors making a combined 243 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. The uprated powertrain option includes a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors, which make a combined 362 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The base mill is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), while the optional hybrid comes with a more responsive six-speed automatic. Neither engine offers many thrills, but both are competent and make excellent daily-driving companions.

Interior

The Grand Highlander is available with a second-row bench or captain’s chairs, which offer seven- or eight-passenger seating, respectively. Synthetic leather upholstery comes standard, along with heated, power-adjustable front seats and heated second-row seats. More expensive configurations add genuine leather and ventilated front seats, and the top trim gets ventilated second-row seats.

Technology

Toyota equips the '25 Grand Highlander Hybrid with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and 7-inch digital gauge cluster as standard. The system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android auto, Amazon Alexa functionality, SiriusXM radio, Bluetooth, multiple USB inputs, and more. The good news for Grand Highlander buyers is that Toyota includes all the goodies in the least expensive trim, so there’s no need for expensive options packages or add-ons.

Safety

The 2025 Grand Highlander Hybrid is too new to have received crash-testing results from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but it comes standard with a long list of safety tech. Features include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition, parking sensors, a rearview camera, lane-keep assist, lane-departure alert, and adaptive cruise control. A surround-view camera system, front parking assist, rain-sensing wipers, and a head-up display are available.
