2024 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class Pricing, Specs, and Release Date

by Chris Teague

The GLB is on the smaller side of Mercedes-Benz’s SUV lineup, but its upright shape affords excellent interior space, and it’s available in a hot AMG-tuned configuration. It features a high-class interior and an available third-row seat, but its relatively small size makes for an uncomfortable ride for most.

What’s New for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class

The 2024 GLB got an exterior update and a new 48-volt mild-hybrid assist system for the new model year. The infotainment system also grabbed a refresh and is now more responsive and easier to use while driving.

Design

The GLB wears a somewhat boxy and upright shape which is a bit funky from the outside, but it affords plenty of headroom inside. Mercedes offers a range of wheel choices, and the SUV has prominent badging, with large versions of the automaker’s logo on the front grille and rear liftgate.

Powertrain

Mercedes offers two powertrain choices for the 2024 GLB. The entry-level configuration comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a mild-hybrid system that produces 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The AMG GLB 35 boosts output to 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive (FWD or AWD). Mild hybrids provide a less clunky start-stop system and boost horsepower slightly, but they don’t offer the fuel economy benefits of a full hybrid or plug-in hybrid.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class - Interior

Interior

The GLB seats five or seven, depending on the layout. Synthetic leather and power front seats come standard, while higher trims add leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, available sport seats, and more. There’s a solid amount of headroom throughout the cabin, and the front seats are plenty comfortable. Though it can seat two in the third row, the GLB’s available extra seat is only suitable for children and is difficult to access for most adults.

Technology

Mercedes equips a 10.25-inch touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster in the 2024 GLB-Class. Other standard tech features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM radio, HD radio, and Bluetooth. Higher configurations add a Burmester sound system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and more.

Safety

The new GLB hasn’t had time for crash testing wtih the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), but Mercedes equips a strong list of standard safety kit. The list includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warnings, driver-attention warnings, a parking-assistance system, safe-exit warnings, pedestrian detection, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts. Available tech include adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, lane-keep assist, lane-departure alerts, and a surround-view camera system.
