leaking doors

Asked by Jul 30, 2010 at 05:41 PM about the 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora 4 Dr 3.5 Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

3 out of 4 doors currently leak during rain storms.  The water builds up in doors and enters car cabin via the lowere carpeted area on the door.  On two occassions rained hard and long periods, water soaked drivers side of car.  Have removed door panels, found no leaves or other debri blocking weep holes.  Water does not enter on the inside of the doors but have not been able to locate an entry point.  ANY suggestions.

Just curious if you found a solution. Mine also is leaking and I believe it is the weathestripping. However I don't think replacing will fix it, I think it is a design issue. Trying to come up with a solution too.

2 fixes-drill small holes on bottom of door, where the panels hook to.2 replace rubber around doors.

I used duct tape to seal the plastic membrain tight against the metal door frame . The dealer removed this plastic sheet to repair the window regulator and the seal was broken. Adding a good silicone sealer all around the underside of plastic sheet also helped. This is an old problem seen in vw bugs. The moisture membrain is criticle for a dry carpet.
