2019 Rav4 Hybrid Gas Tank Issue

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have had fuel pump assembly and fuel tank replaced by local Toyota dealer; still having problem filling gas tank. Gas pump clicks off after 8-9 gallons
even with low gas light illuminated and gauge on E.

For those who did lemon law buybacks, did you have to go through National
Center for Dispute Settlement (NCDS) arbitration first or did you go directly
through state lemon law? Toyota Customer Experience Center will not
advise, saying it's my choice

I am sorry this is so late and maybe of no help. However, I went to the effort of the NCDS and it was a waste of time as at the end of the process they stated: “no significant impairment of vehicle”. My advice is that you go immediately for the Lemon Law, making sure you have 3 trips to the dealer with paperwork stating your problem and have them take you out for a fill up verifying your car’s problem. Otherwise you will have no ground. Toyota dealers are now saying, “Toyota knows of the problem” so they will try to tell you to wait without personally verifying YOUR problem. However, Toyota corporate is very slick and will say to you, “We don’t even know you have a problem.” So, get it verified and go out with the dealer service guy to have him see the gas tank fill right in front of you. Toyota however seems to be falling apart right now with over 600,000 vehicles recalled due to a safety issue (fuel problem) and over a million with an airbag issue, not to mention the horrible “mooing” sound 2019 RAV4 gas engines have and the chronic paint peeling problems. I would never purchase a Toyota again with these quality issues affecting so many vehicles. Hopefully, we won’t be stuck with a lemon and receive the letter 2008 Prius customers received, “There is no fix.” If you get three documented visits to a dealer, at least you would be able to be involved in a class action lawsuit if one arises, which I am fairly certain will occur.

For some reason, my former answer did not show up. Take it in for 3 verified attempts to repair at dealer with paperwork to prove it. Don’t bother with NCDS ... final result: “Not a significant impairment of vehicle”. Waste of time. Make sure each dealer visit verifies problem and notes it, even going out with you to fill gas tank. Corporate is slick and won’t verify YOU have problem unless this is done. Even if you don’t go with Lemon Law pursuit, you will then at least be eligible for class action lawsuit which is sure to come when they end up having no fix for the tank issue but a cheery letter advising you (as they did 2008 Prius customers) that it is a the shape of the tank and not to worry. However, at that point, everyone was stuck with a car which was not operating as was advertised and sold.
