5.0 F-150 Oil Consumption

Asked by RGII Oct 17, 2019 at 06:20 AM about the 2019 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCrew 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What is ford doing about this issue? I’ve
been in communication with my ford case
worker. At 5,000.00 miles on the first oil
change my truck was 4 quarts low. 1 week
later after the oil change it was 1 quart low.
Now after adding a quart 1,000.00 per their
recommendation it was 1.5 quarts low and
the dealership didn’t add the oil back. I’m
super furious with a 50,000 dollar purchase
that it’s my responsibility for my
malfunctioning truck under warranty. Does
anyone have recommendations for a
solution?

5000 miles on first oil change not 500 break in miles first? Sounds like you may have driven 4500 miles beyond what you should have prior to changing the oil.

500 mile break in oil changes ended a long time ago. I doubt Ford has any such recommendation.

I could be wrong but it still stands on a re manufactured engine . In fact synthetic oil is not utilized until 4000 miles is on the engine or the warranty is void. This has been my experience with built and rebuilt engines. Perhaps manufacturer of vehicles today run in the engine prior to installation.

Thank you all for your answers. The 5,000.00 mile break in period is correct. It’s what the dealer recommends. Further the owners manual recommends 7,500.00. Ford has ordered a replacement engine to be put in my pickup truck. The oil consumption on 5.0l and 3.5l eco boost high output is a real issue for Ford. I’m just curious now as to why my new engine is on back order.

My 2020 f150 ecoboost light came on to change a little before 10k miles. This was the very first service. Talked to a mechanic because I wasn't sure this was correct but he reassured me that the trucks oil should be changed every 10k intervals. He said to take in when oil gets to about 10 or 15 percent oil lige
