why all of my mail replies to the customer indicate unread?

When I reply to potential buyers, after hitting Send the messages indicate unread.  Then I received the same question from that interested buyer, indicating that hey may not have received my message.  So I am cocern.

I don't get any messages either because they say my e-mail doesn't exist ,but of course it does , some kind of site maintenance was done before , I had to change my password so who knows what's up .
