Ford F-150 loud fan noise

Asked by bdaws130990 Aug 03, 2018 at 04:31 PM about the 2014 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCrew 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a 2014 F-150, and when no matter what gear it's in, or how long
it's been running, a very loud fan noise will kick on intermittently for about 10-
15 seconds, and then turn itself back off again. It's happened after running
for about 1-2 minutes, and it'll happen after driving a while as well, so it's not
like there's a specific situation causing it. Want to know if there's anything I
can do to remedy it as it is quite loud, and also want to make sure it's not
anything that's going to cause an expensive problem in the future.

Could be many factors. The fan could be defective or in need of replacing. The cooling system may need service. Coolant should be changed about every two years. Thermostat could not be operating properly. The sensor monitoring the coolant temperature could need replacing. The fan should come on when the AC is turned on. Check in the morning after the car has set overnight. With engine running and AC off see if the fan is running at startup, it shouldn't.
