Steering slop

Asked by RollTideXVII Mar 10, 2019 at 06:23 PM about the 2014 Ford F-150 XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just purchased a 2014 f150 4x4
The steering has about a 1/4” to 3/8” slop in
it. Not a problem at low speeds but
concerning on the interstate. The steering on
my 2010 was very tight.
I am fairly certain the slop is in the gearbox
itself. Can this be adjusted out.

Check for worn components and excessive play when the wheel is turned. While checking under the vehicle, engine off, have someone turn the wheel 1/2 to 3/8 to see if moving steering components is not being transferred to the wheels.
