Truck shuts off with low gas

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2014 F-150 V-8 5.0 that recently gave me a
problem. I was driving and it said I had 18 miles to
empty. I went up a steep hill then came down. After
I flattened out it stalled on me. I made it to the
shoulder and tried to start it. I waited and tried
again. No luck. Got it towed to my house then went
and got gas for it. It started right up. I drove it for a
day then was down to 20 miles left in tank and it
stalled at a red light. I haven’t done anything with it
yet. Does anyone have an idea what this could be?

Your gauge is incorrectly calibrated in your instrument cluster. So, that means 18 or 20 gallons until empty is actually an empty tank. Book Knowledge Source: Amazon Search; Jesus Roberto Auto.

The fuel pump/sending unit in the tank may need replacing. Fill it up and see how much gas it takes and compare that to the gauge. Running it down to 20 miles (maybe 1 gallon) is not a good idea. You may damage the fuel pump. Keep it at a 1/4 tank or more.

1 gallon on flat ground might mean a 1/4" in the bottom of the tank. Going up hill or down hill can mean no gas at all at the pump fuel pickup.
