I have a 06 p71 my trans is going in hard when I put it in drive and when I'm at a stop or when I don't put the o/d

Sounds like the trans is ready for a rebuilt, due to burnt clutches. I suspect you bought the car off auction? Those P71's were beat up in the service years. Keep O/D locked out since it works fine. If your inclined to keep the car, save your money for future repair work.
