Upgradeed alt from g1 to g3

Changed alt to g3 out of
taurus in a 88 f150 5.0,
have to rev to 4000 rpm
before start charging,
turn off and I have a
short that draining
battery have disconnect
cable

Are you sure the replacement 3G alt is good? If you haven't seen this write-up on Alt swaps, it's a good one: https://www.plowsite.com/threads/alternator-questions-again.74050/ scroll down about half way on the page to "3G Interchange Facts. If you're thinking 3G read here."
