1985 ford f150 inline 6 NO ELECTRICITY TO ANYTHING

Asked by CBDon'tCare Aug 10, 2020 at 01:37 AM about the 1985 Ford F-150 XL Standard Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 1985 f150 and recently, it has been recieving
no power whatsoever. I have no lights, no radio, no
horn, no "door ajar" buzzing noise, no blinkers, and
it does not crank over when i turn the key, nothing.
Everything was working perfectly fine until this. We
thought it was the starter relay but no, it wasn't
that. Anyone have any ideas as to what is going
on?

A catastrophic failure such as this is going to be battery related. Check your battery cable connections at both ends and make sure everything is clean and tight. Double check the battery cable down by the starter too. Hope that helps! Jim

Thanks, but i dont think thats the problem. My buddy and i put a screw driver through the starter solenoid and the engine cranked but since i wasnt getting power to the fuel pump, it wasnt getting any gas. My connectors however are kinda loose but somehow sending power to the solenoid, would tightening them down help?

Pull out the multi-meter and set it to dc volts. Open the fuse box under the hood and check to make certain you are getting voltage to the fuses. If not, begin checking backward toward the battery. Find the main ground from the battery, it may connect to the engine or frame. Make sure there is a good connection.

Yes, you have an ignition switch. It's on the lower end of the steering column near the floor. But some of the things you mentioned that aren't working are not controlled by the ignition switch such as the door buzzer, horn, and headlights. These are live all the time. They draw power directly from the battery. Hope that helps! Jim

Is most likely your inertia switch, look in passenger kick panel, has a red reset button on top and a 2 wire plug on it. Just unplug put a short U shaped jumper wire into the plug part, see if you get lights etc back and start. If not the next I'd check his your neutral safety switch
