What would cause gear pin not to go back in?

cant get gear pin back in rear end . Its like axle has
shifted in. Even the old pin will not go back in.
Spider geara are lined up but can't get pin through
middle

DId you try to pull the axle back out a bit? You can probably pry the axle out from the differential end or use a tapered punch to align the holes.
