We live in Costa Rica, my oldest son has a 2001 Accord 2.3 lt
The car uses 1 qt of oil per 300 miles, but does not smoke. A local mechanic
who only works on Honda says the cylinder sleeve (s) are no longer round. It
has 175 compression per cylinder but he says that is because the whole
cylinder sleeve is not bad. Has anyone ever heard of this being a problem
He is probably referring to cylinder taper. Cylinders sometimes wear more at the top than the bottom and the piston rings loose some of their ability to control the oil with excessive taper. How many miles on this car? Has the PCV valve been replaced? Is it leaking oil?
PCV valve replaced. When the car was shipped it was in customs for 6 months and the oil when we got it to a mechanic was shot so it was changed, but we found out the oil pump was working only intermittently so we changed that, had a valve job done, new rings and bearings installed. The car has only 140K on it. My problem is obviously I have a full understanding of the English language when it comes to car parts, but trying to understand without being taken for a ride in Spanish is different. I do get the concept of what he said and given the oil pump issue I can even relate a little bit more, but in all my 3,000,000 miles in cars and 250,000 more in motorcycle riding/some racing, the out of round concept was/is new to me. I thought perhaps it is an Accord/Honda issue. PS. Love the pic. Are we related?

If it's using that much oil and not smoking, it has to be leaking somewhere. HTH. -Jim
