RUST ON DOOR PANELS

Asked by Mark Sep 23, 2015 at 12:13 AM about the 2002 GMC Sonoma SLS Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: General

My stepson has a 2002 GMC  Sonoma truck with significant rust on the side
door panels,  rear tailgate and wheel wells.  I have not seen the undercarriage.
Do you think that there's a good chance that the undercarriage and chassis  is
rusting out.  They salt the roads back there in the Midwest.     What do you
think?

If the body panels have that much rust, then there has to be rust on the under body. May not be as bad since the under body is a thicker steel..

...rusting out? Maybe not yet, but rusting. I live in the Midwest too, n I always try to wash my car every couple weeks, especially in the winter, salt hates your car n will eat it. Exposed metal oxidizes, always. ...my brother told me something and I think about it often, Take care of your car, n it will take care of you. ...God Bless, out.

Thanks, you can see daylight through the door panels though. I've been encouraging my stepson to get rid of this thing, but, he likes the truck. I don't think it's worth much as Kelly Blue Book won't even value trucks with that much rust.

...if he likes it that much, maybe talk to him about getting parts...Kelly Blue Book don't know his heart...you can do a lot with something you love. ...I know I keep watching a truck on here, I swear Cargurus must think I'm nuts, I keep watching it, I hope to own it...it's something about the Sonomas, I love them.
