Why does my anti theft system keeps shutting down my ignition?

sitting in my car with the car running, listening to music, once I got out, locked it and returned 15 minutes later, my car would not start.  It acts as if it will start, but does not.  I was told that the ant theft device kicks it and shuts the car down...Why is that?  I was stranded for a moment, however this is the second time this has happened within a month.  How do I rectify this situation?

open you door with you key not with the remote control and try again.
