Engine light came on, temperature gauge is not working. Car is running fine
Have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes at an auto parts store. Write the codes down. Check engine light may be on because of a temperature sensor that may be causing the gauge not to work. Once the problem is fixed, then the codes can be cleared to turn off the check engine light.
Exactly, your Malibu must reach operating temperature (195°F) within 9 minutes from a cold start up. If not a trouble code will be sea and the check engine light will come on. Since your heater is working fine it's probably the coolant temperature sensor. HTH. -Jim
