I have never heard of this- wow- another "solution" to a "problem" that never existed- is it too late to go back to the '60s?

In your spare tire area, there should be a white, emergency fill tube. If you find it, try inserting it and see if the flap will loosen. Often times, these Capless systems on the Ford Products get damaged due to tampering or improper nozzle being fit into there. The only fix is to buy a new fuel filler tube.
