Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I would be driving at 20 mph and the rpm would spike up
to 5!!!! , then while I'm at a stop on idle it would be on 2
(normally it would be at 1) anyone know why this is

Also they thing will get "confused" if I want to go to reverse it stays at neutral (p.s. I have recently replaced my driver side cv axle and I saw the guy putting it in with a hammer)
